Night Time Fly Fishing Trip Report - 10/1

Recommended Posts

Now looks like rain all weekend, not sure what I am doing.  On vacation week after, will be 25th before I can get back down if I don't go.

I know if I wait that long JestersHK will start posting pictures of what I missed or DD will release the next version of Sculpin 2.0 and the resulting bruisers that fall to it.  Nothing worse than not going and seeing what you missed.

Tough first world decisions.......

Forecast has changed every day this past week while I've been checking.  I've learned to just go with it and roll with it.  With waders and a good rain jacket I'll fish until the lightning runs me off.

Night time forecast looks great though with low wind and partly clear skies so far and a pretty fat moon which has always been a good sign for me.  Moss should be cleared out with yesterdays heavy burst of water they pushed through.  I look at it this way, what would I be doing if I didn't go fish?  If that is more memorable than catching a big sea monster brownie I'll stay at home. <twist twist that arm>  :)

Me and fshndoug talked last night and got some game plans established.  Shoot me a PM if ya make it down, and I'll send you my number over.

Just for fun, sit and watch the "fishing" in outlet #2 for a while.  Note the ratio of legal hookups verses foul hooked hookups.  Fouls will win.  But what I noticed is that these were "normal" drift-stop-set hookups and not throw-and-jerk (for the most part).  The guys using 2 flies snagged fish almost every time.  So it's not necessarily the fault of the angler foul hooking fish... it's the nature of the beast - fishing the outlet.  So many fish there that you can't help but snag.

Keeping a foul hooked fish... that person lacks a moral conscience.  He's gotta believe it's ok to do it and block out the fact in his own mind that it's illegal plus it doesn't take much skill to run a line of hooks over a back and catch a fin.
