C’mon over to the Darkside

Recommended Posts

I use them with my cousin and my buddy for a friendly competition.  We only count trout though...

I think we need two of those bead boards for Jig fest this year and we'll track each fishermans daily total!  LOL

Maybe we make one for @Johnsfolly for number of snags or lures lost!  :P  Just kidding buddy I am right there with ya leaving tackle in the river LOL

Get one of these.  https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-e-z-lure-retriever Or the ones on a pole.

Mine has retrieved the same mega bass 4 times and all out of rivers.  Plus numerous other baits my buddies hung up.  Spot lock helps a bunch too.

Does that thing really work?  Or you just funnin us.

Looks like $13 bucks lost at the same time as the lure on a flowing river.

That being said, I have a device I purchased many years ago that looks like a little boomerang with a nub and a string.  You put the nub on the tip eyelet and hook the boomerang over the limb that fly is stuck on.  Yank the string and pull the fly off or the limb down to take it off.  Works pretty slick.  Longer the fly rod, the more reach you have into the trees.   I have used it to retrieve others lures left behind in trout parks and streams also.  Paid for itself many times over and helped me find some new local patterns to tye.

Never tried it in a river but it works welll to retrieve $25+ musky lures😁.

You will break a few off and lose some while wade fishing. It can be an ordeal to retrieve one when wading, especially if you bust one off  in some wood in deep water 2 miles upstream from your canoe & tent.

I have one, was unsuccessful using it from the bank in a creek.  Seen a few lures retrieved from a boat though.   I think being above the snag helps.

I have only used one from a boat. You are better off with being above the lure. It takes a fair bit of time to get things unsnagged.
