Passed up this guy tonight hoping he grows into a really big one. He appears to only be 3 1/2 years old by looking at his body. Sorry for the crappy video but he was 70 yards away and all I had was my iphone to video with.

Should have taken him, chances are you may never see him again. None the less, nice video and beautiful buck

Mo. does a great job with deer but they should sell more tags and cheaper tags, deer here can't grow to farm land sizes simply because they are overstocked for the habitat.  Witness any highway.

As to the buck, it's OK but I'd have taken the big doe and ate her.  Kill off the good  bucks and kill off a big portion of the gene pool,  leaving that one is a good; leaving the one sided or big deer-little rack type maybe not so good. I can picture a herd of all two pointers  resulting from the point count hunts.

Thinking you can control the genetics of a wild deer herd is laughable. If you do some research on high fence deer breeding, you will find out that the genetic make up of the doe is very important as well and we have zero idea what kind of genetics a wild doe is carrying. Providing nutrition via good quality food plots helps, but the biggest factor is age. Letting bucks get to at least 4.5 is the only way to really see the potential that a deer has.

I disagree, a crock pot can show the potential just as well as fry pan.  But to use your tame deer example, do you know of a breeder that removes all his big antlered bucks from his breeding program? Carry on with that thought a bit farther, of course the doe contributes to the gene pool but only what she got from her parents. I laugh at buck hunters, but different strokes and etc. Antler stew!

I wouldn’t call it a pissing match, just more of a discussion. It’s an awesome deer as I have already stated. You have much more will power at laying off him that imd have and I hope it pays off huge for you in the future.

Ive passed many deer thinking the same thing as you.  With that said, A deer like that around are parts is pretty rare. There is nothing at all with doing what ever you choose to do.  As anyone will tell you, If that is your passion, pursue it how you wish and noone can tell you other wise.  Post as many of those as youd like.  I love seeing all the pics on here weather it is the fish or the deer. Great Post

It is an awesome deer, I would have passed on it also, although perhaps for different reasons. It's essentially catch and release hunting.  People turn perfectly good fish loose for many reasons; the same things can apply to hunting. A matter of tastes after all.
