Suson Park St Louis County

Recommended Posts

I snuck to Suson Park to fish for the trout. I went on lunch break,  about 1:30.  There were a decent amount of people fishing.   I seen a few people leaving with their limits as I pulled into a parking spot.  I only had about 30 minutes to play.   I used a jig from Lilley's Marina.   Peach and sculpin.  I was not successful.  I did see people pulling fish in, one guy caught a small bass.  I had to go back to work.  I may try again later in the week.

The trout were active, seen a few rises, and some jumpers.  Good luck out there.

Edited to add time of day.

If that is a catch and keep lake throughout the season you may want to try small olive jig or a wooley bugger under a float if you are spin fishing. Likely that the aggressive fish have been harvested already. Try different depths. Cast out and let it sit then pull in slightly and pause. That jig will rise then gently fall. Try that retrieve. If you want to bait fish and keep them, I would try a split shot or two about 8 to 10 inches in front of a small treble (#18 or 20) with one or more power eggs. I have had success with orange and pink/white. Livie likes to give them three and will add an egg to each hook.

Good luck.

I was thinking about using a bobber, but only took the rod from the van, no tackle box.  I don't plan to keep them.  I am spin fishing, I have a good assortment of stuff to throw at them.  I will try your retrieve advice. Thank you.

Yeah if you can get a bit of chop in the surface that's the ticket.  If not just slow down that retrieve a bit too.

Never been to that park, but there's one off Midland that stocks them too!

Hope you catch em next time buddy!
