Xraydude 21 Report post Posted February 13 The thought has crossed my mind as well, have never fished Stockton this early. I only get one or two trips per year. It seems there is a whole lot of winter left this year but if a guy could swing a trip around March first, what could I expect? rps 4,767 Report post Posted February 13 Walleye have the urge by now. The water temp they prefer to spawn is 44 to 50. The move to the areas (whether they will prove effective) they prefer has started. By March 13th they will be mostly finished. Personally, I do not fish for them until after they settle down in April/May. However, if you are trophy hunting, the next month will be your best bet. Big girls will be full and shallow. I do like to catch big fish, but I'm not into trophies, and a big female walleye is too valuable to take. I may get three days off and thought it would be fun to try once. MrGiggles 345 Report post Posted February 15 I got a question for those that know a little about the walleye spawn. What makes a "good" spawning area? I've heard people say that they will go back into Creek arms, and also that they will go to the dam. Is it just a matter of bottom substrate (the rubble on the dam)? On an unrelated note, is this the old quarry that I've heard about? Thought it was strange that it has steep cliff banks, but the whole area is relatively shallow.
