April 24, Indian Creek area

Recommended Posts

Got out late today, waited for the rain showers to clear out, ended up launching around 1030 AM.

Started out fishing Keitechs around smallmouth banks and points, never found much of a good bite, caught a couple that were around the keeper mark and one dink.  Did catch a keeper walleye off a gravel point.

Went back into Indian and fished around docks and timber, still slow picked up a couple of 13" spots, and a couple of white bass.  Switched out to fishing a 1/16 oz Ned head with a cut Zinker and started to get some consistent bites, but had problems getting them to stay on, they are on nests now and just aren't committing to eating that bait.  Managed a few spots and a couple of short smallmouth on the Ned.

Decided to go back and fish some main lake points to try and catch another walleye to go with the one in the livewell, usually that doesn't work out like I want it to, but today it did and I caught another keeper sized walter on the Keitech.  Caught a little striper that might have been 3 pounds, couldn't get any more walleye bites so called it a day and got off the water about 5 PM.

WT 62.

3 of us had a surprising walleye bite on Thursday. Just bank pounding for bass, I threw out deeper and lost a really nice eye at the boat. So we pulled out a little deeper and  and wound up with 6 walleyes, 3 keepers that wound up as dinner, and 3 shorts just touching 17". Buddy caught a really nice 21". The eyes seemed to be in 12 to 15 fow. Very small sample but the walleyes seem much healthier than the last couple of years. All we caught were thick and really frisky. The bass were hard to find, very scattered. No smallies, they must be done with the spawn. Can't really tell if the LM are in, done,  or what. WT 60-61. Lots of Bass Catters pre fishing. Tried to look for crappies on sunny Friday but most of my banks had 2-3 Bass Cats on them. Nice looking boats, I don't need to go 70mph anymore. Sadly no one told them about no wake zone around rt 12 bridge.

I fished Indian Creek yesterday in the tournament. We caught 4 keeper blacks up there. No KYs to be found. It was odd. All on flukes. We couldn’t get that big bite which is what makes the difference this time of year. Had just shy of 10lbs. Had fun but it was a grind. Usually this time of year we catch tons of fish. Not yesterday.

You did good to catch 4 keepers up there.  Bite has definitely been off this year in Indian.

Spots have been weird, last time I was out, I cast to a bass that was chasing shad on top, got a hookup on the top water, that fish came off, worked it back to the boat and had probably 10 spots follow it in, couple of them were decent fish.  They spooked off and couldn't get another look from them.
