Borderline insanity

Funny, I never realized they managed Table Rock for bass.  I was there last fall and all the fishing shops on the Gravois side had crappie fishing stuff.  Could not find a decent Bass Lure in town.  You would think it is only Crappie fishing there.  Why would they even have a bass tourney?

I suspect MDC would respond to the lake users if they were screaming about the spawn killer tourneys, but it looks to me like every one that has boat or an interest must be in those tourneys. If so, then MDC is responding to the users wants. It is not the businessmen/promoters that  will move the bass or take them off the nest, only the anglers will be responsible for that.

Texas is the absolute class of the world as far as fisheries management for bass. They had their version of the big bass tour on Sam Rayburn with something like 1000 boats! And guess what, their lakes crank out giants each year, even Lake Fork, which gets an insane amount of pressure, due to its proximity to Dallas, and it's national fame. Thanks to stocking and programs like Share-A-Lunker, while it isn't what it was at its peak, it's still a productive lake with real chances of a double digit bass on any given day.

I don't think any of us are asking for the MDC to waste money, but I do think it is silly that they will stock walleye, crappie, trout, stripers occasionally, etc etc, but won't stock a bass to save their lives. Maybe a protected spawn season on the lakes is part of the answer, but personally I'd rather the tournaments happen during the spawn and move the fish around than have them happen in June or July when the water is warm and kill them straight away.

All we are asking is MDC to look at supporting the fisheries a little more. They are obviously bringing money into the economy. Like derby fishing or hate it, 700 boats are gonna buy some gas and food, which is gonna help the tax base in the lake area. We just need MDC to proactively manage the resource so those fishermen keep coming, or God forbid tell their friends to come too, because the fishing is so amazing. Texas does it, we can to, if it becomes politically benificial.

you are right champ.  there has to be some common sense here, but that seems to be something that has been lost along the way.  it is one thing to catch a bass off a bed and let it go right there, but entirely something different when you move them.

we have the technology to not do that by means of cell phone and digital scales, but the mdc is going to have to make the law and enforce it.  seems as though the kids can not make any rational decision on their own.  with more and more people fishing for the same amount of fish changes in the norm of operation needs to take place.

Yep, if we are going to "grow the sport", we probably need to change the sport a little first, so we have sport left to grow.

I just love these post where the complaining is about bass fishermen, fishing. 😎

it is not about folks fishing, but more to do with what is being done to the fish population which is limited and with no outside help to expand that resource then tournament fishing methods of hauling that resource around in livewells needs to be addressed.
