Larry on new land owner tags and CWD

Recommended Posts

It’s like  déjà vu all over again...think the NSSF is doing this to calm public fears out of the kindness of their hearts? Or to stem the loss of deer hunting related profits? If you look you can find it...my understanding LD caused a ruckus on a CWD article  that caused a few deer hunting dependent businesses to lose sales, thus threatening to pull their ad dollars or drop LD’s column...and that got it rolling...at the behest of some deer dependent businesses, the MDC responded...( buddies with said slighted business owner) and the whole “CWD isn’t catching...however just in case...”

CWD is way, way, way down on the list of things that I think might kill me.  As a matter of fact it's not even on the list.

Check back with me when you are capable of having a rational discussion.  Probably won't happen, and until then you're not worth the time.

All I know is.....The next time I say something stupid, or something that pisses everybody off around here.... y'all remember that I might just have a prion in my brain, and have pity FOR CHRIST SAKE!

In closing it’s a complex issue, one that like the HIV studies, found treatments beyond the scope of just HIV...perhaps we will see this in all this Prion studies will effect treatments of things like cancer and diabetes...

the MDC in my opinion does pretty well once they focus on an issue, LD just declared war on them

They've been at this "studying" stage for a long time.  Something tells me they are milking it in the same way that "cancer research" is being milked.   Nobody involved wants to get to the bottom of the issue because then they'll need to find (or invent) something else to study in order for all these "specialist's" to remain employed (needed).

A brief look into history will likely show that all the men responsible for finding genuine "cures" died as poor as a church mouse.

You have a valid point, I think we forget sometimes healthcare is a business, curing isn’t as profitable as chronic treating...

They injected it into their brain.  Show me a case where a human being contracted some sort of prion disease from eating a CWD infected deer.

You make one more personal attack directed at me and I will make some on you.

Well, we ain't never going to get out of this alive anyway, pass them eggs and brains.

I've been reading about this for a couple/three  decades now and I think it is much more serious than any of the responsible agencies are letting on, the facts are that we can do nothing to stop or prevent the spread of transmissible spongiform   encephalitis, regardless of species involved. The proteins are indestructible and last a very long time in the food cycle, sloughed off by "infected" animals and stays in the dirt for undetermined  time spans, can be taken up by plants as they grow and introduced into new animals years later, can be eaten from dead animals by scavengers and passed out later miles away in waste to again be  taken up in plants and etc. We can not yet undo the genetic mutations that are involved.

Most  of the past studies have been useless because they had no starting point, no understanding of what to look for  or what to study. I think that will change in upcoming studies. If and when funds are made available.  Comparison to cancer research is apt, they still aren't quite sure what to look for in cancer either. Finding answers with unclear questions is never going to be quick.

Now, even though I think this is more serious a problem than is recognized, I don't  see a reason for panic or hysteria, most areas have too many whitetails and too many humans already anyway and some loss of either won't endanger the species. Once or if the new human prion  disease become well established (it won't be CJD because it will be a cross species jump with some differences) there will be not only more interest in finding answers, but, there will be humans to test, or sample genetic data from.  I suspect given the long association of humans and scrapie sheep/goats that at least some humans have a  resistance system.

CWD has been around since the 60's. Is everybody who has eaten venison over the past 60 years withering away to nothing and dying? Nope, they sure aren't. Of all the crap in the world that I worry about killing me, eating venison is not even a blip on that list. If you're too afraid to eat venison for fear of contacting CWD then stop eating it and move on. That leaves more deer for the rest of us to kill and eat.

Well yeah they are, but venison had nothing to do with it.   Odds are that if they'd ate more of it, and less Taco Bell, they would be in better condition. 😊
