That's a lot of water!

Recommended Posts

Elk River this morning is running over 53,000 cfs. That is not a typo. That is a massive amount of water!

The cities of Neosho, Anderson, and Seneca were all shut down due to major flooding issues with numerous water rescues. It rained most of the day and at one point, we received 5.5 inches in 2 hrs.

It  was a heck of a rain and after the first 1/4" was all runoff.  I'm kinda trapped here in the holler, but more fortunate than those in the flood plain. It's still at 45700. I always need to think in gallons-  so, 341,859 gallons per second.

I tried to go thru Anderson right after the downpour quit yesterday AM, saw 3 vehicles with their lights on (and presumably people inside) all pinned against trees in fast moving water up to their headlights. Tried to pull over to offer assistance but the police said rescue crew was coming and I should get on out of their way. Scary business.
