Question

Recommended Posts

I was gonna take my 4 kids ages 12-7 fishing at either Bennett or roaring river.  I live basically in between them.

Is one one any better than the other? Or no difference.

6 in one, half dozen in the other?

TIA

I took one of my daughters to kids fishing day at RR one time and vowed never to do it again. If you want to go to the carnival at the trout park then by all means go, a lot of people enjoy it obviously. But if you want to go fish with them in a less circus type environment then choose another day.

couldn't agree more.....I think finding a warm weekend during C&R season is much "easier" to enjoy for them.

The only downside is the park isn't chock full fish like it is on kids day.

Kids just get control of  the upper end, the majority of the park is just about normal in the times I've been there and Zone 3 is almost always left alone.  Park is always chock full of trout, winter or summer. Only difference is in winter it is no kill except with cameras and the stockings are further apart instead of daily. (I think I was told weekly to support the C&R - that's a lot of camera poisoning)

In past years they have stocked some biggies for the kids, last time I took a grandson some other kid caught a 6#+ for the big fish of the day.  I doubt that will happen this time because the hatchery is down.  But the nice thing is they furnish tackle for those that don't have it and give basic instruction  to those that want it. Even had fly casting lessons for kids.

I have to think that if I was half way between those two parks though, I'd also be within driving distance of Montauk, a place I'd like to visit more often.

I took myself to Roaring River one day and it turned out to be Kids Fishing Day. I vowed never to do THAT again  :D
