What were they after

Recommended Posts

I fish some pretty cold rivers out in Montana, but from the first of June until sometime in September, I wet wade.  There aren't many streams, even in the mountains, that are so cold that you need waders when the air temps are in the 70s or above.  I see clients of the guides out there fishing from drift boats in July with waders on.  That simply doesn't make sense.  But Ness is right, a good set of breathable stocking foot waders and good lightweight wading boots are comfortable enough to have on all day and do some hiking in.

I didn’t understand a thing either one of you said but I do wish you would play nice.

Oh, I try. I really do try. Sometimes it’s just too much though. 😄

So do you think most of these were tourists waving their rods around in their waders trying to look the part instead of serious guys who knew what they were doing?  I must have seen hundreds of them and not once did any have a fish on.

I wade fish a lot and approach from the bank and not from a boat. I will wear waders as much for protection from walking through brush as I will for staying dry. When I wet wade in the warmer weather I will have a thin pair of long underwear under a light pair of quick dry pants. Again this is for brush, particularly poison ivy or nettles and some resistance to ticks. Many of the creeks that I fish don't have well beaten trails along the banks.

These guys were at pulloffs really close to their cars.  They weren’t doing any brush beatin’.

Many of those people are "fly fishing" the popular locations. There may be some fishermen amongst them that will catch fish.

Hey Ness and Gavin - we need to put together another wild-trout round-up this fall.  I'll be making quite a few trips to Rolla as Paul Dallas, Jr. is enrolled there this fall.  Camp at Lane Spring where some of us can fish the LP, some can fish Mill Creek, and some can go fish the Spring Cr.

Congrats to Jr. I saw that and immediately thought it would be a good excuse for you to get down that way.

I'd be up for something! Haven't hit the little creeks enough the last couple years. But...I'm in the process of figuring out what to do about my bum knee. Hoping I can get another shot and make it through the fall before surgery.
