Family Fishing

Recommended Posts

I am taking my wife and two boys (15 and 13) to fish over Labor Day weekend.  We will be camping at Dam-Quarry and fishing close to the Dam, but I am open to other areas.  We have no boat so it will be wade fishing and from docks.  Any advice on where, how, and with what would be appreciated.  We jig fish and fly fish.

They eat Zig Jigs there. Real regular.

Swing by a local fly shop and buy a few of what they suggest. Usually Norfork fish get more pressure so it seems like they want stuff smaller than White River fish.

Kids under 16 NEED to fish Dry Run Creek

Thanks Ham!  I appreciate the advice.  I have some Zig Jigs left from the last Jig Fest!

We had planned on letting the kids fish Dry Run, they are excited.  Hoping we can get on some while we are down.  We may make a drive over to Cotter as well.

Egg fly in Dry run will absolutely kill em.  Get the ones with tied on a jig head about a foot below an indicator.  This was her last chance before turning 16 a few years ago.  We went down for 3 days and never left Dry run and I never wet a line.  She literally caught hundreds in those 3 days.

Thank you Snagged!  I am hoping they have an awesome trip.  They have fished Bennett many many times and Tany a few.

Yeah all my kids grew up at Bennett and Taney.  Dry Run will ruin them though....

Dry run creek is a great spot to ruin your kids expectations of trout fishing 😁. A definite must go IMO. Check my post from our trip in Aug 2017 on the Norfolk tailwater thread. Livie caught three of the four slam species that day and her largest rainbow.
