Unusual Catches While Fishing?

Recommended Posts

My cousin is skilled at weird catches. Last time out on plastic worms he had a large mussel clamped on the worm. A bit later he says he's got a big one and it sure was, a trash can lid size turtle pulling the boat around. I've had owls try to take a top water but luckily never hooked one.

Pop-R is what my seagull hit, too!  He was very calm once he got the lure...landed on the water, let me reel him in and remove the hook before flying off.

I admit I was a little bummed, cuz an aerial battle would have been much more exciting.

Mussel shells, Turtles, snakes, cans, a shoe full of mud, an anchor, several rods and reels, a hand tied castnet made of mono fishing line and adorned with numerous types of lead sinkers.  The contraption also had snagged 3 stickbaits, a couple of cranks, and several rattle-traps.

I had a big probably 2' across snapping turtle take a jig from me a couple months ago.  Jig was in his mouth and I couldn't drag him up on the bank to whack him on the head with a rock.  He got off by using his claw to shred my line.  Was my favorite jig too. Bastard...

I was working a top water spook one evening with a flock of geese swimming nearby. They didn't mind the lure until a bass exploded and sent them in motion. Missed the fish, and a goose crossed my line with his foot and ended up getting hooked in the webbing. I didn't know what to do at first so I kept feeding line out as the flock continued to ascend, yelling to my buddy that my spook was flying away! Began putting pressure on the line till it was a full on tug of war. I was trying my best not to hurt the bird but he crashed and hit the water like a downed fighter jet, and all of this on a busy summer weekend on public water with many onlookers. Got the lure out and the goose flew off.

Over the past 70 yrs I cannot even to start to remember.all the junk I have caught or hooked into. Most recent I never got a look at a What I thought was a bush on the finder turned out to be what I suspect was a very very large catfish. I must have foul hooked him and he very slowly just took off with me !8ft targa and everything in it. Until the hook pulled loose.
