11-16

Recommended Posts

Put in at RB about 8 am, water temp was 44, fished brush piles around bridge pillars.  Caught crappie in 20-30 ft using bobby garlands, blue/silver with silver flakes seemed to work best.  Ended up with 15 nice crappie but had to work to get them.  Water temp was close to 48 when got off lake at 3 pm.  Took home for some nice filets.

That is surprising that much of a difference.  Was surprised to that they had good size egg sacks in them.  Is that normal for them in the winter? We caught several that were 13 or better, they were very thick.  The rest were all 11 inches or better .  The size seems to be better than last year this time

Yes, they often have good sized egg sacks this time of year. And, with the abundance of food and conditions this year (high water, shad populations, water quality, etc.) the crappie are in fine condition which translates to extra energy to prep for reproduction!

That is a 13 inch on top and an 11 on the bottom,

Rootman,

I am so glad you sent the picture of the 13" and the 11" Crappie. This shows exactly why I have been asking for a 12" length limit on Stockton for the Crappie. Just LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE in SIZE ? !!? !!!!!

1. Stockton has a good supply of Crappie. Black and White both....................

2. Stockton has a great supply of Shad....................

3. Stockton is obviously deep enough to hold these type of fish, even through the worst winters and hottest summers.

Fish Biologist please answer me.................. Why don't we have a 12" length limit on the Crappie in Stockton Lake??? You helped us out greatly with the lowered length limit for the Kentucky Bass please help us out with this one too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes that two inches makes a heck of a difference. I thought my wife was just ragging on me. 😉 I'm going out tomorrow . Give it a shot. Maybe get a little bass time in as well? I just have a hankering for some fried fish!!! Would be happy with some spots as well.
