Crappie in December

Recommended Posts

I don't normally fish for Crappie this time of year, but I am looking to change that Monday. Where would my fellow Stockton anglers look for them this time of year? Just flat out guessing. I am thinking maybe pole timber around bluffs? Welcome some input on that. No specific description of your honey holes is necessary. Latitude and longitude would probably be enough. lol Mike

I find them around brush piles in 25-30 ft of water.  I use bobby garlands and go down to the brush or bottom and tell up very slowly and they hit on the way up.  Brush around deep bridge pillars is a good place to find them, same depth.  Hope this helps, good luck!

Good colors I have found are electric chicken, black/silver flakes  blue/silver flaked and monkey milk.  The blue/silver is my go to color, just more confidence in it .   Just depends on what you think will catch fish.  If you have the gps waypoints on your lake map on your fish finder it helps  a lot.

Yep. Deep brush is a safe bet.

In some areas the fish never really group up on structure, most of them are in open water chasing shad. In that case spooning can work really well. Last year this was all that really worked where I fished, if just fishing brush I would pick up a few, but it was pretty slow with a short period of action right before dark.

Monkey Milk?  Electric Chicken?  Really?

Have I determined why I don't seem to be a productive fisherman?

What ever happened to gray jigs, minners and worms?

Merry Christmas everybody!!!

Have not been crappie fishing for 3or more years but bad day of fishing is better than good day at work. Today will be my first time fishing on the bigger part of lake. Fourth time in total at this lake with no boat and go too spot but I do know 30 40feet give or take I'm targeting them at from dock or shoreline if that's realistic from those areas at least one or two of them are around I'm going to go slow on presentations. good luck. I know I could use some luck. maybe will see you on the water.
