I put on FB that there had been 23,000 Deaths because of the Flu, this happens every year and life goes on.

Leave it to FB they deleted it.

Don't know why they deleted yours, there are about a hundred versions of it on my Facebook feed.  But I gotta say that it's a ridiculous comparison.  We've had an entire flu season to compare to two or three weeks of this virus, starting from next to nothing.  The EXPERTS in epidemiology keep telling us that exponential spread is possible and even inevitable if we don't follow all the social distancing.  Exponential spread means doubling and tripling in a very short time interval over and over again.  That means that if your little town starts out with one case and doubles every two days, in a month your little town will have 32,000 cases.  So get back to me in a month with your comparison, because right now it means nothing.

I pulled the plug on the equities part of my 401(k) a week and a half ago. Got dinged but have a decent positive return over the last 5 quarters. Not really one to try to out guess the market because I don’t need the money for several years, but this is some scary chit.

Bailed out of equities a couple weeks ago, took a 10% hit, but walked out ahead of a year ago. Should be fine if I we need to burn through some of it during this panic. Figure it will be a lean year. Most of our small business customers will be closed or with limited revenue. IRS should allow folks to take a free $100k out of their retirement plans this year just to live on. Allow a free $200k next year for the economic reboot. It could not hurt. Better than a lousy $1,000 check, and no out of pocket cost.

Don't think 1 or 2- $1,000 checks are going to do much, other than increase the national debt some more. Specifically for those that are out of work longterm.

Also don't think allowing anyone to take money out of retirement is going to do much either for those most affected. Considering something like half of people don't have emergency funds and a significant number have less than the $2k in a retirement account.

Not a good situation anyway you spin it but something has to be done with unemployment by all accounts it looks like numbers are going to explode. Will be interesting to see after this all tames down how fast we get back to a reasonable normal. Is it going to be weeks, months, or years?

Really wish I would have pulled my money but my account values are relatively low and I've got another 30-35 years to make it up. The painful part for someone who is young is looking at an account balance that is significantly lower than what you have invested over the last 4 or so years.

I've been following the stock market for close to 40 years, these things happen and it always looks ugly at the bottom.  It presents a buying opportunity if you have a long term outlook.

This.  Now is the time to buy if you have the means.  There are several really good stocks right now that are at 52-week lows.  It will all rebound.
