I was reading an article about Spring Turkey hunting and what I got out of it was basically leave your calls at home.

Said most Toms learn fast to not Gobble. So know which way they are going and shoot them coming through.

Everybody has their own favorite way of turkey hunting.  Mine is to load up the boat and go crappie fishing instead.

I was big-time into turkey hunting for about 12 years.   Never once did I "call one in" unless you can count the one time that a tom kept getting closer everytime we slammed the truck tailgate.  4 slams over a 2 hour period moved him over 100 yards and finally into range.

Locating them on the roost late in the evening, then sneaking in on them before daylight the following morning was my most productive technique, both Spring and Fall.

Have you guys seen these guys walk in on them hiding behind a picture of of a tom or fan tail?  Pretty wild.

That was came up many years ago and hunters decided it was just too dang dangerous. So what changed?

Me I go by the fact I don’t see any Strutting in the Fields anymore and very few tracks. I was doing a Gobble count for the MDC, it got to where it was a joke never hearing a one in an area on a ridge use to hear hundreds.

I’ve killed many over the years but not worth the time anymore.

I've never cared much for wild turkey meat.  I've never eaten crow or buzzard but I doubt that anyone could tell the difference between either of those and a wild turkey, once cooked.
