As I remember.................  I stated a couple of years ago that with the large number of Crappie being caught, many, many , limits................  and a lot of them being over 11" in length.....................  I requested that the length limit be raised to 11" the following year and hopefully to 12" soon after.............

Sure wish that had been done........... plenty of food in the lake................

now we are hoping for 10 inchers again.................

I'm Not sure of where the Broodstock walleye are collected now, but a few years ago, and for several on consecutive years, they were all collected below Truman Dam, which are lake of the Ozarks fish t

I'm not sure who you got that information from, but I was highly involved with sampling and collection of walleye broodstock in the 80s. We never determined that shocking had any negative effect on sp

I get it, but it’s not like every fish in the lake that’s 10 inches has been caught. Maybe instead of blaming the lake and you can look at yourself for the answer. It’s the fall. The fall is tough , it always has been and always will be. I guarantee that towards the end of November the fish will move to a more catchable location and all will be quite again . It’s seems the time of overreacting has made its way from the line at the grocery store to the lake . God help us

LVN2Fish,

Sorry you feel this way. I personally do not fish at Stockton anymore. It is a proven fact that the quality of fish in a lake improves with increased length limits as long as the food is there to sustain that population.

Kind of like feeding hogs......................  if you have plenty of corn but you slaughter them when they are undersized you have missed the boat.....................

Here is a lot of things that go it deciding length limits and bag limits.   Reproductive success, quality and quantity of forage, life span of the species, number of years it takes to make MLL.  Too many things to change it on a yearly basis, but stockton and TR with the 10 inch limits already don't seem to price more or bigger crappie than LOZ, Pomme, or Truman.  I belive most MLL are targeted toward a 3 yr harvest size based on growth rate.  Comparing raising hogs that have a much longer life span to crappie is a bit of apples to oranges.

To All,

Internet says:

Oldest Crappie recorded: 15 years

Black Crappie Life Span: up to 10 years

White Crappie Life Span: Up to 7 years

"Crappie will reach 10" by 3 Years"

Only time will tell huh? I agree that fall is usually a tough time of year to catch the larger crappie, but due to the increased pressure caused by covid 19, the older, legal sized year classes took a big hit this spring/summer. However,  I'm sure that we have a huge 2019 year class that should reach the 10 inch MLL about fall of 2021. Mopanfisher is exactly right in saying that regulations can not be changed on a yearly basis, that is a long, complicated process that requires lots of justification. Fish populations are managed for long term sustainability with optimal production by considering long term characteristics of the population and exploitation. There are lots and lots of considerations and there is no way to predict some of the factors that will effect changes in recruitment, harvest, growth rates, etc.,etc. The covid pandemic fishing pressure increase is one of those.

That is cool data and would even be better if all of the class survives to 3 years, we know it does not.

What % of the class is dead at 3 years, then 4 years, then 5 years.

What is the length of the growing season there compared to Stockton? How big do they grow there in 3 years?  What is the forage base there and how rich with nutrients is the lake compared to Stockton? Lots of questions as to ask. I bet the lakes similarities stop at they both have water in them.  :)
