	Spent NYE on the creek with my buddy <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://forums.ozarkanglers.com/profile/3743-harps/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="3743" href="https://forums.ozarkanglers.com/profile/3743-harps/" rel="">@Harps</a>. We knew going into it that the water was extremely low and the possiblility of a skunking was very real. Luckily I was able to kill the skunk with a wooly stripped through a deep pool.
</p>

<p>
	Fished below town in the morning. Had lunch at Festus Jacks's in downtown Crane. The food is worth a drive to Crane. Delicious. Then Harps fished above town after lunch and I chased him around with a camera until the batteries died in the camera and the sun. We did get to witness a nice hatch and saw tons of fish rising to them but were unsuccesful in getting a take. While there was an occasional mafly that came off, most were little midges that we just didn't have anything small enough to match.
</p>

<p>
	Still lots of good fish in the creek but man we need some rain. Fished 3 days this week in all different places and everywhere could use some rain.

</p>

<p>
	In the months of March and April I spent a lot of time on Crane Creek. On the upper, on the lower, on public water, on private water, I have been all over that creek. Most days I had someone fishing with me, and a few days it was just me and a bunch of cameras. I myself, in the 8 days I spent on the creek, only made a handful of casts. Most days I never carried a rod.
</p>

<p>
	This is not a regular fishing video. We aren't showing any techniques. We aren't proving nor disproving any legends about the McCloud Redband Rainbow. And while there is discussion on the legends, we don't shed any new light on those stories. And we sure as hell aren't selling anything. This is truly, the pursuit of a legend and some good times amongst friends.

	Finally had a chance to go to Crane Creek. Looking to check off a bucket list item. Went to the 2nd crossing above the city park. Walked down about 25 yards to a nice size pool. Sat and watched and saw they were sipping off the surface.  I brought my 9' tenkara rod and tried a few drys. Finally attracted some attention with a size 14 brown Elkhair Caddis. In 25 mins. I caught 2!!!! Biggest was about 10 inches.

<p>
	I’m thinking about heading down to Crane Creek for a day fishing trip this weekend. I live up by KC and fish Bennett Spring mostly (which I enjoy a lot). Wanting to try my hand at these McCloud strain wild spawning rainbow trout. I’ve read a few posts and understand they are way more educated and spookier than your hatchery trout variety. I’m looking forward to the challenge!  I seen a recommendation to park at the ball fields and walk the tracts down to the creek. Is this a good spot to fish this week? I’ve also seen upper and middle wire access points which I’ll check out when there. If you were going fishing this weekend, where would you fish this stream? Are the snakes, tics, chiggers unusually bad there now?  Thanks for any tips you care to share.

<p>
	I've been obsessed with chasing monster trout for a while.  This past winter <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://forums.ozarkanglers.com/profile/22687-brandonstl/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="22687" href="https://forums.ozarkanglers.com/profile/22687-brandonstl/" rel="">@BrandonSTL</a> and I started the blue ribbon slam challenge.  After the winter I was down to 3 streams left. Crane, NFOW, and 11pt.
</p>

<p>
	My buddy and I were chasing sea monsters on Taney this weekend and the crowds in the morning were crazy with the water being off.  We woke up in the car after a quick nap yesterday and I called the audible to make the hour drive to Crane.
</p>

<p>
	On the way I texted a trusted source of knowledge here <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://forums.ozarkanglers.com/profile/16486-trythisonemv/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="16486" href="https://forums.ozarkanglers.com/profile/16486-trythisonemv/" rel="">@trythisonemv</a> and anxiously awaited he respond to my text!  I prayed he was awake and could help us two noobs on where to start.  He responded and we were all set.
</p>

<p>
	We arrived to a locked bathroom and my buddies coffee kicking in lol, after a slight detour we parked around 9am and grudgingly started the process of wadering up.   I say grudgingly as at this point I think we had maybe 3 to 4 hours sleep in the past 3 days and it was well over 95 degrees and humid.
</p>

<p>
	After a 1/2 mile trek in the sun and heat us fat kids were sweaty so it was awesome to be greeted with a shady creek and cool water that was teeming with life.
</p>

<p>
	After struggling to find fish in 2 of the other blue ribbon streams it was great to see so many trout so quickly.
</p>

<p>
	It didn't take us long and we both had our first fish landed.  They weren't huge but they were hardy and fought good.
</p>

<p>
	Robs 2nd fish was a 14in that took him for a ride.  All the fish we caught fought harder than any other trout their equal.  They just had a fire in them that day I guess,  but it was great fun.
</p>

<p>
	After about 3 hours and over 5 a piece for both of us we decided to end this little side adventure.  I was stoked with the catching,  and also crossing #7 off my list.

	If not for the baby id be wandering the creek in search of giants. This time of year with high water they would be willing to play and maybe even take a big fly.

	So I finally figured out what the large dobsonesque /stoneflyesque creature flying around crane creek is. They are called fish fly. Dark fish fly to be precise. They are in same family as Dobson flies. Didn't even know we had these in Missouri. They are very similar to dobson fly. The difference and the reason I started to question what i have been seeing is tye whiteish yellow spots on the wings and smaller pinchers. They have larvae similar to hellgramite and can easily be confused.

	Took my ultralight fly kit out for a short test run just after lunch today.  The creek was certainly "up" but not bad at all.  It was quite clear for as much water as we've had lately but still not like it is normally.  Didn't see a single fish.  Lots of debris.  Kept getting caught on twigs and leaves rushing downstream.  The only bugs I saw were just the water skimmers on calm sections.

	A beautiful March day on Crane Creek.

	Duck season kept me busy (not to mention work) so I haven't been to Crane Creek recently. In this lull between duck season and turkey season my mind has turned back to fishing and I find myself missing this little stream. I'd love to hear some stories if anyone has been lately.

	I found a White River landing net at Crane Creek this morning. Looks to be almost brand new and has a magnetic holder attached. I’d say whoever lost it got it snagged on a bush and didn’t realize it was gone until they got back to their truck. Lmk if it’s yours or you know someone who lost one.

	. Started out at sunup at ball field and walked down the tracks as the water is super low and clear and the upper and middle would be bone dry. First hole had a couple lookers at the barely legal but too small to eat. Then switched to olive and black bugger and game on. Managed a few here and there but nothing too hot. Switched to double nymph drop shot rig with frenchie and scud and caught five or six dinks in short order . The kid I took with me caught his first trout on this one. Kept moving as water was very skinny and any wrong move ou r loud noise spooked the holes. Made it to the spot where I have best luck and was rewarded with merely good excercise as the fish here were less than willing.  So started walk backup.  On the way we noticed that the spots we came through on the way down that we void were now teeming with fish. Most of them keying into small stoneflies that were just every where. Size 18 little brown stones I estimate.  I tied on closest thing I had... old reliable elk hair caddis. Very technical casting and approach lead to first dry fly fish. This would be repeated consistently the test of the walk all the way up into the park.  Nice fish were moving on the fly but a lot of refusals from the big girls.  Overall probably a 20 plus fish day.  I am going to have to tie up some smaller caddis as I think this would really have slayed them .

	I managed to sneak away for a few hours yesterday and hit the area around the middle Wire Road access. 9 in total, although they were all small (including one almost microscopic trout) and most were caught between 6-7pm. I did see what I believe were larger fish in some of the deeper pools but didn’t have any luck getting them to bite. As usual, the fish I did catch were at the back of the bends, under the tree roots and driftwood. I can home 8 flies lighter because of that. But it was fun. Size 16 brassies with red wire and zug bugs worked well. I’m enjoying getting to know this fun little creek.

	What a pretty day yesterday!  Skipped over to crane and walked down the tracks to start my day. Creek back to low and clear, not ideal conditions but beggars cant be choosy. Managed about twenty fish all but two were tiny. Most came on elk hair caddis skated through riffles or gently placed on the edge of seams. Fun day

	 Crane creek is fishing pretty good right now, fished it yesterday, caught five nice trout, biggest one was about 12 inches,  lots of top  water activity. I caught all of my trout  yesterday on a  #12 parachute Adams, if you’re looking for something to do while the tail waters are still running hard and fast, crane creek can fill the void. Caps creek will get it’s first stocking of trout in the next week or so. Don’t forget you can fish below Roaring River State Park, and that water is very fishable.
</p>

<p>
	C&amp;R season at Roaring River State Park starts up on November 8th.
