  2. Got the long block assembled last night. Had a lot of trouble with ring compressors, finally ended up trying a tapered Wiseco sleeve that worked like a charm. Just need to clean the cams up and get everything timed, then the powerhead will go back on. Hopefully will be ready to see if it pops tomorrow. I swapped in .015 thinner valve shims on the #4 intakes and the clearance came out perfect, so that's taken care of.

  6. 10-15-21 For you all that are getting to fish the tournament tomorrow, there are some really good reports coming in on shallow Jig fish. Boat in 15’ at first light small 5/16th. Or 3/8th. oz. jig with small pac-a-chunk trailer. Gravel points and cuts Indian Point to Campbell Point. 10 am move the boat to 30’ with bite still good 1/2 way back in the 12’ to 20’ range. Switch to a Hard Head and reel it slow like a crank bait bumping the bottom or drag it. C-Rig is also really good up in the day. GP Centipede, same depth. All brown fish. One of the local really reliable guides told me his clients had 16 keeps up to 4 lbs. Monday and then had 12 keeps Tuesday. Not a lot of short fish. More keeps than short bites. Good Luck.

  7. Got on the water at 10. Fished till 4. Caught bunches of sub legal fish and scratched out 10 keepers. All came over corp brushpiles in 15-20' of water. It was a mix of black and white crappie. The blacks were by far the thicker of the two, but size wise were nothing to brag about. Fish above 11" are a rarity for me. I'm sure there is a class of fish missing from 3 years ago.

    Fresh Oysters

You mean this worn and tatterd book? I found some ring less honey mushrooms the other day. Did a spore print to positive id. Tried a few. Not bad but not my favorite either.

We're going over to some friends for dinner tonight. I'm supplying the mushrooms. Going to deep fry some. In a piece of vintage cast iron that I got off some guy I know.🙂 Sauteed a few this morning in butter to go with scrambled eggs. Been so long since I had oyster shelfs I'd forgotten how good they really are. There is a good reason they are on the cover of the MDC book "Missouri's Wild Mushrooms"

  14. Not really 🤔 Clear water lakes seem to maintain a better bass fishery on lakes that fluctuate wildly. The fish can successfully spawn deeper in that environment than they can on heavily stained or muddy water lakes. Crappie can spawn in the trees, catfish can spawn deeper in total darkness, and temperate bass spawn in the creeks. Largemouth need a gradually sloping shoreline and reasonably steady water levels. Truman and Mark Twain lack that nowadays.....but they didn't used to. Both Truman and MT were excellent bass lakes before they started allowing the levels to fluctuate so much. Blame the COE I guess. 🤷

  15. Over the last 2 days at the lodge we have gotten to this point 5.5 inches. Really needed it. I think we are still about 8” down for the year to date. Lights here went out about an hour ago all over the Carroll Electric grid in this area.
