Gavin got a reaction from nomolites in What's Cooking?
We have been cooking in the back yard for over a month now. Loving the blackstone and the air fryer, hope to finish up in the next few. Counters on Thursday we hope.

Gavin got a reaction from Greasy B in First visit in years
Meramec is a weird one...It is good in the winter as a midge and small scud fishery, not very fly fishing friendly. Used to be an old poacher named Bosco who hung out there. He would chum a run then fish while declaring Bosco Bait, is the best there is! Think it was a mix of bacon grease and trout park pellets from the feeders.

You can heat the bill on a jointed rapala bend it to a 90 a bit, and it will wake. Still love the Mann's 1- and the baby 1-, and the redfin....Well, you will need to buy a few redfins to find one that runs well. There are some good old threads on hear.

Gavin reacted to Foghorn in First visit in years
Old Bosco was show boating one day and when nobody paid attention he left the water . As he walked away, he picked up an empty soda can and tossed it towards the trash can. He missed and walked away only to have a conservation agent stop him. They had been watching him and the agent told Bosco to head to his truck as he was getting a ticket for littering. Bosco said it wasn't his can to which the agent declared it was when you picked it up and threw it on the ground. Guess he got banned from a couple trout parks.

Gavin got a reaction from WestCentralFisher in Mushroom ID?
It looks like a Green Spored Lepiota. It's called the Vomiter. because it will make you wish for death but not kill you. It is also similar to the Destroying Angel...Amanita sp. which will kill you. Toss them in the trash.
Chanterelles are really abundant now if you want to forage for something. Look in oak hickory woods.

Gavin reacted to ColdWaterFshr in Year of the Snakes...
Mr. Cotton swam right up to within 20 feet of our tent on the Jacks Fork last weekend. I think he was curious. We walked up slowly and fairly close to him in a non-threatening way and we told him this was our gravel bar and we had made reservations. He bid us adieu and slithered away.
I've floated far and wide and across many rivers and creeks. The only place I've seen Mr. Cotton is the Jacks Fork. Water snakes I've seen everywhere. Copperheads everywhere, but always on land. Biggest and only rattlesnake I've seen was on the Eleven Point, swimming toward the drift boat. It was huge, and there was no mistaking its tail.
Copperheads freak me out the worst because they are so well camoflaged and don't usually move until you are right up on them.

As was the gull that took my Pop-R
Spastic screaming bastard ! Stomped him into a pile of bloody feathers on the deck of a Champion bass boat, and permanently stained the carpet.

Go w/o the license and take your chances. It will probably be OK.

I forgot to renew for two years once. Just did today, and I've been fishing a bit. With small game, fishing, trout, and bird permits...it came to $72. That's not bad, it's cheaper than a good dinner out for two.

Yes, you can cut, measure, and fabricate ferrules with unknown results. You may ruin the rod.

Took 3 new fisherman out and taught them how to spoon on LOZ yesterday evening….this is an hour and a half’s fishing with me just working and not fishing. They used snap raps and vibratos fished pretty much vertically, and wanted a fish fry so we kept a mess.

I did pick some Lil George’s a couple weeks ago. Henkel’s Hook & Arrow in Carlyle, IL. They make them.

Heck man you can catch like crazy when a plug of drunks roll through. They stir up the bottom and fish feed.

You will be in a sea of beer and drunks in rafts. The fish wont care. Cast to the root wads that folks avoid, and the deep shade lines where the drunks are not standing. Those fish are used to it.
