I started late today - 8:15 when I hit the water. Done by 12:00. Overall it was worth going. I caught around 12 or 15 total. 2 where keepers with one being about 4.5lbs. That made my day. Caught a 16.5” walleye too. It was windy as all get out. I caught the bigger one in a little cut that was about 20 yards deep with no wind on it and she was in the far back of it. I threw several different lures but the jerk bait was the only thing I had any luck with. Magicwormman (my supplier) is going to have to help me out again with another jerker. Seems like I can’t bring them home with me.
I use a 200g boot. Any more than 200 and my feet sweat and then get cold. I use these, can’t get too deep in the water with them - but they work for me. I think they are around 125 on sale - listed here at 140.
That’s exciting- wish you would have at least seen that big one. I throw the 110 jr+1. Love the smaller profile this time of year. I will be throwing the 110 after January more.
Is that Table Rock Shad that you have pictured there? I have been loving the Norther Special lately.
Put in at sun up and it was foggy as all get out. I threw a buzzbait for a little bit right off the start and had 1 swirl on it and that was it. So I started throwing my spinning reel setup for jerkbaits that’s I was so excited to try. Man that didn’t go as well as I wanted it to - killed my wrist and I didn’t get the casting distance that I thought I would, not to mention it was awkward to say the least. I used it for 15 or 20 minutes and put it away. I got out my standard jerk bait setup and fished until 10:45 with it. Had a good day - caught north of 20 fish. 4 keeper Kentucky’s and 1 keeper walleye and a short walleye. Happy fishing everyone.
Ok, I am throwing this out there for your thoughts. I have watched Randy Blauket on YouTube talk about the importance of throwing the jerker on a spinning reel. I finally set up a spinning reel to give it a try, I have always used the bait caster.
Thoughts?
I went this morning- landed 3 fish and 2 of them where nice fish. A smallmouth that measured almost 19” and a largemouth that measured 18.5”. Water temperature sure dropped from last weekend with the cold rain and cold nights. It was 61.5 which is about a 6 degree drop from last week. Caught the 2 keepers on a buzz bait and the shorty on a jerk bait. off the water at 10:45.
Man that’s bad news for sure. Like Quillback - I had talked with him a few times at the OA tournaments and it was always pleasant. Prayers for the friends and family.
I put in at 7:05 today. I told Magicwormman I was only going to throw a buzz bait only today- and I did for a couple hours. I caught a nice 2.5 lm on it and a 14’ spot. A couple missed strikes also. I went to the jerkbait around 9 and caught a couple more keepers at 16” and a some more shorts. Total was 3 keepers and 8 shorts. Wind really picked up and made it tuff controlling my boat. Not a bad day. Off the water at 11:00 - water temp was 67.4
I would drive and launch anywhere we decide to have it. I am not sure why the turnout was so low. The proceeds go to a great place - the food is good - the company is great - not sure what else you could have done differently Quillback to get a better turnout.
I just want to give a big thank you to M&M and Quillback. You guys do a lot of work to put these together and we all appreciate it. It’s always a fun time to visit and put names and faces together. I can’t wait for the next gathering.
