While fishing from shore using jigs set 2 1/2' below the float my friend and I found a few crappie on a windy point. I'm guessing there was 25' max depth there with 3' visibility. It was a very slow start to the afternoon, but we just stayed there and it eventually happened.. We were trying lots of color combinations before getting the first bite on flo. orange w/ chart. When we started catching them the bites were steady, but just as soon as they came , they went , and it was over after about 10 minutes. We also caught 6 hand size gills ,and some small ones, and 1 short largemouth.

very cool! never fished salt water but it's definately on the list -
9-3pm Brought the light spinning gear and left the heavy stuff at home. Chased bass and pan fish in big creek. stayed in the back 1/3 all day.Fished with micro power bait jigs.No shortage of big gills up near the bank around bigger rock and wood.Easily caught 90+ gills, all sizes. Found A LOT of shad and small bass were chasing them most of the day. Threw a fluorescent tiger rooster tail, a bleeding shiner tiny trap, gold little cleo, custom painted tiny torpedo and a modified booyah pond magic spinner bait with indiana blade. caught dozens of little largemouth with an occasional keeper spot. lots of fun on light spinning gear! All released

Overslept and finally made it on the water about 7:15. Started with a swim jig head. Sixth cast I caught this fat little dude. Tossed back in the same spot and caught another ,same size, not as fat. Next cast the water boils, and a total miss Picked up a TX rigged b bug and flipped it in there. Tick tick tick, I set and the rod loads up, line immediately shoots 10' to the left straight towards a bush.. I pull to turn it, and it comes off .... Pitched the bug back in there and swam it through the limbs and a 10" spot inhales it. Of course he eats it really good, lol Pitched it in there a few more times ,nada. Kept moving throwing the swim jig and flippin the bug. I had 3 or 4 complete misses as the bait was waking the surface. I slowed it down just a little and hooked up on the next bite. Another short largemouth that looked exactly like the first one. Caught a couple more little chunks on the flip n bug, but the jig was getting more respect from the bigger small bass (if that makes sense). Stayed in one area the whole day because there was so much bait and cover around. I called it a day around 2:30 with 16 shorts and missed at least a dozen more bites. Not sure what the deal was I just couldn't stick em' today. Saw some large bass cruising in groups of 3 or 4, but couldn't execute when they bit. I was fishing in less than 5' all day. Looking at the bottom .

8/29 9-11am hit the pond in Big Ck. for a couple hours mid morning before I had to get back home and smoke some ribs. Very little surfacing activity but I managed to catch 2 keeper spots, and 10 little lm with one of those maybe 15" ,all on frogs. Color didn't seem to matter I got bit on green, black, white & yellow. I didn't get the 2 bigger bass I had hooked in the boat. Broke 50lb braid on one when it wrapped me up in some junk, and the other fish I hooked behind a row of buck brush and it came off when I tried to pull it over the limbs. They were both in the 3lb class. Didn't see as much shad as last time. Water is dropping fast! Where we were catching them Sunday is now the bank. C&R I'm starting to get the hang of Summer fishing again. For YEARS I never really fished much in July and August during the daytime because I was working full time all the time. Now that I'm my own boss I've fished more daytime trips this Summer than I have in the last 5+ years and I thank God everyday for these opportunities! Everyone have a fun and safe weekend!

7am-12 had some company along today and they wanted to go to Big Creek. Not a ripple on the water. bass were chasing on the other side of the lake so we made a bee line for them. He tied on a white frog and a small prop bait and I went with the black frog and custom shallow crank that has been catching them pretty good the last few trips . I was fishing way back in the thick cover in shin deep water while he focused on the outside edges. We both had a bass in the boat by the fourth of fifth cast. Stayed in one general area the entire time. We caught 27 largemouth total all 10-14" except for 1 in the upper 3's class. All released.

For all you fly guys....a 40# on a fly! (carp)
Fish24/7 replied to MoCarp's topic in General Angling Discussion
some of you only wish you had the skills to land such a great fish on a fly. I fly fish for carp and gar. It can be just as challenging and exciting as chasing green fish. Aren't we past the age of making comments based on someone's appearance, or are we still growing up? have a nice day -
there's nothing to worry about if we know what species are common in our area, and there's even daily limit regs. that apply to mussel hunting. I wouldn't use an elephant- ear now because they are on that list, but we can pick from many of other species found in MO. Asian clams are a good option, invasive and no limit i believe.

live freshwater mussel meat is definitely worth a try ,not the dead one's use whatever hook you like and bite size chunks of it split shot rigged on the bottom. I used to fish for them just below a riffle. When I was 9 ,I caught a 9lb red horse on the Bourbeuse river on elephant ear meat.

he was aware of his mistakes, how many of you are aware there's a speed limit at night? didn't find this funny or amusing at all, hope this never happens again. at least nobody was physically hurt by this self proclaimed "idiot" smh. if people don't like my comment, i'm sorry i'm trying to be nice

9am-4pm, 2 hour fog delay WT 87 same place as the last had some company with me yesterday. We chased those green fish all day. It started out fast and furious with 1/4 oz lipless cranks for schooling kentuckies out over the channel but they were all under 12". Couldn't use topwaters out there because the gar were eating them like they were starving to death.. He saw some bass chasing shallow out on flats so we boogied over there and caught several 12-13" lm on little 1/4oz skirtless buzzbaits with a swimming fluke jr on it, but no keepers. Around noon we had a campfire and roasted some hot dogs. After a short break we went back to the channel only to find those fish had dispersed on the graph and were no longer in tight schools chasing bait so we went shallow again this time with bigger cranks and that's when the action picked up. I had taken a big squarebill I painted a crazy fluorescent color and modified the lip to make it a wake bait that dives less than a foot. Also removed the rear treble hook completely and replaced the front one with a single 3x Trokar 1/0 ewg treble (fewer hooks ,fewer snags in heavy cover). It did the trick! I caught a decent 3lb lm. Another just shy of 3lb, and 4 more keepers in the 2lb range all were in ankle/shin deep water. The boat was sitting in about a foot of water. Tried to take some photos yesterday but that's hard to do when you leave your phone at home on the kitchen table, and his in the truck back at the ramp.. Had several decent bass just bump the crank from underneath with their mouths shut. I could see every fish eat it...or not haha. He was throwing the same little buzz bait, and small topwaters but couldn't raise a fish. The bass wanted their prey at a snails pace and that modified crank had the speed/action they wanted. They would eat a slow bait just under the surface but their mood had changed from earlier in the day and they ignored the faster stuff on top. Stayed in that area too long I think and we may have spooked them because all of a sudden they just quit and we never had another bite for the last hour and a half no matter what we tried. All fish were released.
