  1. 5/18 Another good day on the lake! Late start, but found some bass still chasing on top around 9:00. Made a b line for the feeding schools from the launch and hooked up with a 5+ on the 3rd cast with that red eye shad . Long fight while her friends continued to blow up on shad all around the boat. She came unbuttoned when she slammed her head against the side of the jon boat, yes, having a net would have been nice. Short pistol grip rod, the fight had got REALLY up close and personal sitting that low in the water. She splashed me pretty good a couple times! Think I'll tie a rope to the net and the boat so it's always in there hehe. That's been my story lately. Several missed opportunities for big fish. Was able to put 7 , 14-15" largemouth in hand before the schooling stopped. Threw em all back. Broke for lunch and switched over to perch gear and spent the next 4 hours just tossing gills back into the water ,so many I didn't even try to count them, kept 18 towards the end of the day.
  2. Wed. 5/16 Dropped the canoe in for the first time this year. Fished from 10-2. Plan was to spend the first 2 hours chasing green fish , then target hand size gills the rest of the time. Had 2 rods with me and just a handful of tackle. Started shallow with a frog and had trouble catching fish that tried to eat it. After missing several good bites I FINALLY hooked and landed a 3lb class largemouth. Just one of those days where I'd make a bad cast over and behind a bush I'd get bit immediately and they'd wrap me up and get away, or they would spit it out before I could set the hook, or i'd be 3 days late setting the hook, or they would knock the bait up into the air, or jump over it. Crazy stuff! Time to grab the drop shot ultra light rig and see what was lurking just under the canoe. Well, it took a couple hours to get some nice gills for a mess, but I must have caught 100-150 little boogers. There were schools of them swimming around everywhere. Had to use a 1/4 ounce drop weight to get my rig down past the babies before they could grab it. The bigger one's were in 4-10ft just off the bottom. Channel banks had the biggest one's. saw a whole bunch of little fry. So small I couldn't tell what they were. Whatever they are they had a fantastic hatch! Going again Friday/tomorrow.
  3. 5/13 Plan was to go after green bass but decided to go hit the smallies one more time while they are still up failry shallow. Visibility was 15-18'. WT 70. Wanted to start a little before daylight but there's so much floating debris where we launched had to wait until it got light enough to see. Once it was safe enough to nav. we made a run into Arkansas. Threw some topwater for about an hour. Had 3 blow ups but no eaters. Once the sun got higher went to dragging finesse worms and swiBmmingite was pretty slow until around 9:30 then it really picked up. Fished until 11:30. Caught a bunch! No biggins, but the numbers were better than the last 2 times. Mostly brown bass with a couple mossbacks in the mix. Shad spawning all over the lake right now in the debris mats. Saw a plane doing loop de loops it made me queasy just watching it! here's a few from the day.. sat in this tree for at least 20 minutes calling for his girlfriend
  4. love my ultra zoom camera! got some quick pics of these two yesterday from about 50--60 yds away. yep.same tree Looks like the plan is to go again early Sunday morning looking for a largemouth bite.
  5. kolr10 website has some recent info about the lake level. Yard work, yeah that's what " cut" my day short yesterday lol New push mower worked great!
  6. 5/11 I could go but I couldn't stay all day. On the water at 6:30 off by 10:30. Same exact deal as last time. Not big ones but tons of fun!
  7. 5/7 7-10:45am WT 66-70 Warm, calm, sunny morning! Caught 8 bass w/ finesse worms homemade 1/8 oz jig. Just small keepers. but they are still fun! This one had fire in it's eyes! Plan is to get back out there Friday and make a day of it.
  8. I 've bought some predator baits warts and I like those but haven't tried the topwaters yet. some of the best prices I have found on lure blanks are from Japanese sellers on eBay, have to be careful though who you buy from make sure they have a high feedback score Man I need to start painting again, been WAY too long!
  9. That's nice! I like to shoot wild flowers too! After this last pink full moon there should be phlox flowers in bloom! yes, those Orioles I have never seen that many around here in the last 19 years! I missed an opportunity earlier in the month to get some shots of a scissor tailed flycatcher, first one I've ever seen in the yard. I'm anxiously waiting the return of our prothonotary warbler friends, should be any day now! Was on Bull Shoals not too long ago and took a bunch of photos of a golden eagle, pairs of bald eagles and a sand piper, but I made a mistake and didn't switch the camera settings from the macro setting to bird setting and when I got back to the house and looked at them ALL the images were kind of blurry ;( oh well, I'll be ready next time I'm not sure how long mocking birds live, or if it's even the same one . I feel like it's maybe a protector or guardian because there has been one perched on that pole every year since we moved here. Could have been here long before that too idk . Probably not the same bird for that many years but I'd bet it's offspring from the same "family tree"
  10. WT 59-60 Crappie fished Thursday from 3-7, caught 2 tiny whites and a few decent size crappie on swimming minnows in 2-8fow.
  11. Rob what was the highest and lowest water temp you found ??
  12. 4/24 went back to that cove, caught some nice crappie and a white for supper
  13. https://www.google.com/search?q=mean+mouth+bass&rlz=1C1AOHY_enUS709US710&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjMtvWKv87aAhWomeAKHauEDzEQ_AUICigB&biw=1093&bih=476 true spots don't have vertical markings like that, I've caught 1 out of Bull, looked exactly like that one, same size and everything
  14. what a fat Kentucky! nice meanmouth! thanks for posting!
  15. nice! thanks for the report. the warmest water I can find is up in the creek arms . 2 weeks ago it was 57-59 around Theodosia
  16. today was a little better, went back for a couple hours to the same spot as yesterday, caught 6 small lm bass on a small grub, 1 big ol' gill, an 11" walleye, and 2 big crappie on minnows. Those 2 bass I saw yesterday were still on their beds.
  17. went again yesterday afternoon, thought I could find some crappie tucked away in the back of this little cove I can get to by foot. Well, I'm still carrying around the same 3 dozen minnows I bought this week if that tells you anything Did see 2 lm buck bass on 2 beds though, so the back of that cove is pretty warm. I haven't talked to anybody who's caught any crappie recently but I'm sure somebody is. Wonder if some have already spawned?? usually when they move up I can see them when I'm creeping along the bank, did see some males on beds when I had the boat out several days ago but it was only a few and they were spooky as heck like they just got there. I can go again this eve, will report after.
  18. talked to a guy who bass fished all afternoon lower/mid lake Wed, and yesterday , said he caught some spots and smallies, had several keepers, hardly any largemouth. Had to keep moving around .give it a week or 2 and they should stay put. I found some decent largemouth staging last week , dying to get back out there to see if more have moved in.I'm waiting on a buddy to come back so we can use his truck to launch the boats, my pickup is out of commission for now ;(
  19. several degrees behind on WT compared to my log from last year, i'm fixin to go again in about an hour,
  20. i got as far as "wars get fought", hey I tried
  21. fished 4 places today, put a lot of miles on the truck but nothing to show for it, walked 100's of yards of shoreline and caught 1 stinking short bass on a crappie minner lol. Tried the buffet in my tackle box while I watched my bobber in my peripheral vision. Although I did meet a nice fella who was tight lining for cats and we talked fishing for a couple hours while my minnow drug my cork up and down the bank like a champ!! He never had a bite that I saw. Did see 3 pairs of Bald eagles, a golden eagle, 2 ospreys and a sand piper. Carp are really going to town now. Might try it again tomorrow if I can slip away.
  22. nice work! my guns are collecting dust at the moment
  23. the coolest lightning show I've seen in a while. Sounded like a canon !! saw one GIANT bolt split into 3 and they hit the ground in the same area at the same time less than 100yds from the house.
  24. delicious! good for you !
