  1. I haven't been able to figure this out so any help would be great. When I get to 40 mph and the transmission shifts into overdrive (4th gear) I get a vibration in the gas pedal. If I accelerate right through 40 to past 50 mph it doesn't do it. It gets really bad if I have to keep my speed anywhere in the 40's. It feels like when you drive over the warning strips on the side of the interstate only not quite as severe. I only feel it in the gas pedal, not the steering wheel. V8, 180K, Automatic. Other than that it runs fine. I won't mention what I've checked so far so as not to influence your thoughts. Unless you guys think I should. Thanks in advance, SIO3
  2. 30 inches is very hard to attain in our tailwaters. I've been fishing Taney, Norfork and The White for 25 plus years and I've had many fish over 25 inches but 30 is tough. I caught a 30 incher a few years ago on the Norfork and it was one of several I had hooked in the same area but the rest broke off. I'm talking fly rods here just to be clear. I consider anything over 25 inches to be real trophy whether from a tailwater or freeflowing river. SIO3
  3. How do turkey wipe out Quail? I've never heard that before. SIO3
  4. That's cool DaddyO. I used to hunt over a buddy of mine named Vince when we were young. We took turns being the dog. We killed alot of birds that way. It wasn't until about 15 years ago the I got to hunt over a good dog and I love it. I think we could've used at least 2 dogs until they cut the field edges. SIO3
  5. It's funny you talk about pen birds. This dog has been trained only on pen birds and she was having a hard time with the wild ones. It was warm Sunday and the birds were running on her and she didn't know what was going on. She'll get better though. SIO3
  6. My buddy and I hunted the family farm Sunday over in IL. We hunt over a Britany and she was over-matched. We put field edges in the set aside program last year and it wasn't cut yet. Some fence-rows are 50 yards wide and thick. We got up two coveys and managed 4 birds out of them. We have alot of quail but we also have alot of cover, maybe too much. The second covey probably had 20 birds in it. I'm sure we are walking past birds because years ago we would get up 5 or 6 coveys a day, and that's when we had less cover. The fence-rows are wider and now with the addition of the field edges it's overwhelming. We're hoping the populations get big enough for us to get into more birds just because of the increase in numbers. We're going again after they cut the set aside so maybe it will concentrate them a little. SIO3
  7. I have the article and read it thoroughly since I just bought new boots. The boots in the test did NOT stack up equally all the time. And I quote from the guide in the test who had the most time on the water. "I felt a slight advantage with the felt sole when wading on flat, sloping ledges and while walking on irregular of rounded stones that were covered in moss and/or algae" They all agree rubber performed just as well in sand and small stones but so does any boot. I bought felt again because of the areas below Bull Shoals dam and the middle Norfork where ledge rock and large moss covered stones are the norm. I also care for, and have cared for, my equipment in response to invasive species since it was first talked about. If I want to fish Bennett on the way back from The White, I bring my old boots that are completely dry and never got wet and use them. I think we have real problem but what about guys going from The Norfork to the White in the same day? I know Diddy is already in both but where do you draw the line. I believe I found Diddy in Taney a few years ago but Phil told the MDC and they checked it out and said there wasn't. Since then a local guide published pictures of Diddy he found in Taney. I think all these waters were cross infected for years before the big bloom happened on the White. Biologist said Diddy was present for years before anything was said about it spreading. In some waters like the Norfork, it just doesn't get out of control like it does on the White. For years guys have stopped at Bennett on the way back from The White before anything about cross contamination was talked about. SIO3
  8. I cast all the new stuff when it comes out and the trend lately is for faster rods. I agree that a slower rod is easier to learn with and in my opinion they are more pleasurable to cast over the long haul. I have Lamson Lightspeeds with sage and Loomis rods. I could have bought any rod that Sage had at the time but the VPS just felt better to me. I'm a golfer so a new $400 dollar stick every year isn't a big deal to me. Cast them first and don't worry if it's fast or slow. Also cast them with the reel you want I've cast some horribly matched up outfits before and it makes a huge difference. One side note though. If you are going to fish tailwaters I would go with 9'6" rod or better yet 10'. If you going to the trout parks or small Missouri trout rivers I would stay at 9' or less. I guess Dallas and I have the same great taste in wrenches. SIO3
  9. Go get an Investors Business Daily and learn not only stock picking, but money management techniques for traders. Sometimes the best money made is the money you didn't lose. Several books from William O'neil will put you in the right place. In my ignorant opinion, penny stocks or pink sheet stocks should be avoided. They don't have to adhere to any generally accepted accounting practices so fundamental analysis is out the window. If you do trade these things, most recommend using a strictly technical trading system. SIO3
  10. Maybe the flood last year caused some light bulbs to go on. Releasing flood gate water in addition to water going through generators to keep O2 up is a great idea. Apparently with no cost to SWPA like the O2 injectors. SIO3
  11. I'm headed down Friday morning. Leaving Saturday afternoon. Sleeping in the Yukon Motel. SIO3
  12. I highly recommend John Berry. Berry Brothers Guide Service. He has report in The White River Section. http://www.berrybrothersguides.com/ SIO3
  13. Since we're below 917 I'm assuming they won't cut back till 915. I thought 917 was the new pool level for the winter? SIO3
  14. There was a nice stretch of river we wanted to fish and it was private. I pulled in the guys driveway and asked if we could fish. He said "Sure you can. Glad you came and asked instead of trying to sneak on like everyone else" SIO3
  15. My first trip to Bennett was in my mom's stomach and we camped. Been going there ever since. I'm 48. My dad wouldn't take me to The White and Norfork till I was ten. He said I was too small to wade some of the areas he liked to fish. So 38 years there. Been going to Taney about the same as bennett. SIO3
  16. Hey Max That's clearly a shark. SIO3

  20. I didn't think a hillbilly could be a crackhead. I guess you learn something new everyday.
  21. Welcome!!! I've always wanted to catch a rooster on a fly rod. I looked at your links and WOW!!! I'd love to do one of those trips. Cool Pics too!! SIO3
  22. 2 of the lakes at Busch are CnR only until Feb 1st. I talked to one of the conservation guys at Busch last year and he said they never have any dead leftover trout in the spring. I believe one of them posts here from time to time. I don't even know how the program started or where the funds come from. I'll tell you what, it's no tailwater or trout park, But when gas was $4 a gallon and my trout trips were too expensive it was nice to go down and catch a few. SIO3
  23. "I can be standin in the Current in 15 minutes." Okay that hurt! SIO3
  24. Since I'm only 5 miles from Busch I guess I'll head on over and catch a few!! That's after spending the weekend on the Current. I get the best of both worlds. Sorry. I'll check back later for your rant. SIO3
