Seth Clarkson reacted to misfitfishingco in Bottom Composition
Circle is Point 15 and the line on the right is a high spot like an underwater island I call it.

Heres some. There is more up river but mostly very shallow. Point 15 can be good.

I guess my problem is distinguishing between gravel and the dirt on google maps. Is there very much gravel north of bridgeport? Because it almost all looks like dirt to me.

Got to Cape Fair at sunrise and fished up towards and in James River. Dad and I caught 19 between us. All came in less than 10 ft of water and in the shade except one by a bridge piling. Caught a few early on a black buzzbait and dad caught a couple on a spook. Caught the rest of mine on a yum green pumpkin hawgcraw that I picked up on sale at Academy. Dad caught most of his on a spinnerbait with a gold willow silver Colorado and a mixed Chartreuse and white skirt. Found tons of shad and gar in a couple coves but couldn't get any bass to hit anything around those areas eve though we saw some underneath the bait balls. Maybe too much bait or th high pressure not sure.

Saving some money and catching almost as many per day and more fish per bait works for me.I've never tournament fished and I get to enjoy being on the water more often this way. Doesn't matter what you use as long as you have fun doing it!

Mostly main lake, went into 2 coves and 1 of them was dead and the other I caught 5 or so.

My wife and I fished moonshine area Saturday evening. We weren't having much going until dusk when I started slow rolling a war eagle double leaf spinner in 15 to 20 feet of water. Bouncing along the bottom we caught about ten, most were right at keeper size.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Enjoyed the day but didn't accomplish a whole lot. Dad and I put about 15 in the boat. Almost all flipping shaded cover. I had a lot of I assume smaller fish grabbing the tail end of my worm and trying to run off with it. Tried fishing a deep drop-off between the marina and Bridgeport. Had a good one break off and a few grab it and spit it out real quick. Lots of wake moved us up in the coves 16 ft aluminum doesn't stay in place very well.

I got out this morning about 2 hours before sun up and was pretty disappointed in my results the first 2 hours. Skunked. I threw a jig and a black spinner. Water temp 79.
When the sun got up just enough to see the bushes I threw a Buzzbait and did real well number wise. I probably had close to 30 with 2 keeps that were 16 to 17 inches long. Also had a couple good blowups with no hookups. By 9:00 I was throwing a jig again and caught around 12 more on it - but no keepers on it. Lost 2 keepers at the boat on the Buzzbait. Off the water at 10:45. Stupid people started showing up in groves.
Came across these 2 little raccoons that were too hungry to care that I was around. Sure were cute little boogers. Never saw momma coon. You never know what your going to see out here, maybe that's why I love it so much!!!

High skies are usually great days to deadstick the Ned. Won't hurt the flip bite either, especially if it blows a little.

I decided to try and upload a picture of one that I posted to Instagram since the first attempt didn't work. It saves it as a separate picture on my phone even without using the filtering. So here is a pic of one I caught back in a flooded cove. This was only in about 5 foot.

Ended up going to Cape Fair. Bridgeport was flooded and part of the marina was flooded. Someone blocked one of the ramps when they parked and there was a million people down there ended up putting in below Flat Creek restaurant and fished around the mouth of James and Flat Creek. Caught around 10 or so and had five right around the keeper mark nothing much bigger. Pics would upload but I think the biggest was skinny largemouth about 16.5 inches.

Got on the water around 8:30am after the storms and finding out that Bridgeport area was flooded and the Cape Fair marina was pretty packed and a few people not being respectful on how they parked. Put in below flat creek restaurant. Caught around 10 with 5 right around the keeper mark. All were largemouth and were either caught on a pbj hula stick, June bug or California 420 ol monster. All worm bites were in flooded timber around 10 feet deep. Ned rig got them on bluffs or chunk rock of some kind. Tried to post a couple pics from my phone but get an error. They are jpeg files so not sure why it didn't work.
