\ I do the same but I like to transfer my plastics out of the store bags and put them into ziplocks with a couple squirts of fish attractant to keep them lubed.

A purple fishing pole?

Nice report! Sure wish I could use my boat there. Would save me a bunch of gas this summer.

I suppose but I really don't like to fish water that is stacked with so many boats you have to weave through them to move. Which is what it felt like to me this morning. I can't choose a spot and sit. I like to cover a lot of water quickly and move back and forth between productive areas. I don't want to offend anyone by appearing I am picking fish out of their squatter's patch. Public water or not it might rub people the wrong way. The idea of watching out for other people's lines irks me. I don't know. I actually prefer to get away from the rat race when I fish. I might enjoy chasing an incidental group of whites on occassion but they don't impress me enough to tolerate congested water. I mainly was curious this morning about the walleye. Would be interesting to go sometime after midnight for those.

I feel your pain. It does feel good to wet some hooks even if the conditions are less than favorable.

Windy......... Put in at Bridgeport around nine this morning. Water temp was 51 at the ramp and 50(ish) in the main lake. Wasn’t it like upper 50s this time last year? I can’t remember. I had to cruise up to find out what yesterdays chatter was about in the James and found 54 degree water. About 40 other fishermen found it as well. You had to be in shallow skinny water to even find that though. I saw a few whites being caught but most of the guys I talked with said it was painfully slow. Tossed a few spoons around but after an hour I got irritated by the traffic. We all know Trav can’t stand to fish elbow to elbow so I jetted back to the lake. By the time I scooted pass the mouth of Flat Creek the wind was howling. It was threatening white caps and had churned the water to the point it lowered the water temp to 48. I knew unless the sun got bright it was going to be tough. I would say it was mostly cloudy. Bummer I ended up bouncing grubs down steep bluffs knowing I had to be in 20 plus feet of water to do any good. The wind had my boat speed drifting so fast it was difficult to slow down my presentation. Grrr…I really am not very fond of slow methodical fishing anyway. Just isn’t my style to force feed a fish but I managed to land a couple sports. One spot and a largemouth, neither was impressive but am grateful not to have skunked out. After I was properly wind-beaten I finally called it a day around 1:30. The water was 47 at the ramp by then. I would say, unless we get a lot of “warm” rain, the lake has more than a couple weeks before the bass get turned on any. This winter has been relentless and it is continuing to serve some unforgiving conditions.

Don't sweat it Joe. Most white bass fisherman can be compared to Eskimos chasing salmon runs. "Hurry up while it lasts!" Just kidding fellas.. ....but you have to admit...I have a point there...hehe
-
I agree. Whites tend to follow the hours of sunlight as a trigger. Since they are schooling fish they tend to anticipate warmer weather instinctively this way.
-
I have heard they are still running deep but getting more active. Most of what I heard is coming from the Bridgport area near Flat creek.

Trav replied to Thompson Fishing Guide Service's topic in Stockton Lake
I think the signs you are referring to are mile markers. The letter is the creek/river arm and the number is how far it is from the dam. Marty...make my chevy a 4x4 king cab silverado,,,hehe -
It is the Glenstone exit off James River expressway, turn left toward Republic Rd then take the outer road and head back east. No?

A pair of binoculars and a full tank of gas....add that to knowing what Marty's boat looks like and I bet you can get plenty of info...hehe Sorry Marty...couldn't resist. -
The issue of it being for a worthy cause is not being debated. The way it was mass presented is the original fuss of this thread. Not it's location(s), nor it's initial subject matter. We should be happy that enough people pay attention to the forum enough to call a ham a ham. We call things as we see them and in a sense it makes a better forum because of this, even though we can be less than diplomatic in our approaches at times. As far as the spam being an "invitation".....I personally took it as an invite and found it quite interesting until it became evident membership required a donation/fee. In "my" opinion, (opinions are subjective), an invitation crosses the line to being a solicitation when funds are the primary objective to it being offered. I agree with Gary's cause and don't condemn his method of advertising nor am I surprised or offended by it. In fact, it is logical to expect this on the internet. Personally, I would have spammed it all over the place myself if I had been the one looking for support. I know the world of marketing and exposure is the key. Plus my instinct to scream from the rafters so everyone can here me would have naturally taken control. Who cares if it is popular? Now, My thoughts that a free membership would collect more funds (in the long run) than having a cover charge at the door was only an observation toward a different approach that could be taken and not at all critical to Gary's purpose. Of course I am in the mindset that time is money and should be considered with as much value if not more. None the less, Gary is not making the rules of engagement for this organization's practices and I can respect his limitations. He is chapter building. Yet, this concept does bring up questions to me. I wonder how much of the money this new chapter brings in is actually going to remain in this new chapter. As a participant of a couple nonprofits myself I know how it works. A person might have the idea it is helping to improve our home water when in effect it is also spreading the money elsewhere. Example being, If you think your 10 bucks donated for Haiti relief won't in part end up in Africa your gravely mistaken. This is why I feel a nonprofit should make room for donations of time as well. People are more willing to participate if it is going to directly benefit them. It is a proven fact. With that time, “free members” will be spending money for them to be present. Actions speak louder than words and no action comes without a price. To defend the idea of chapter building though, a young chapter like this will benefit from the funding and experience the other chapters have to offer it. A perfect example is the cost of their website's overhead and its numbers balance needs. OK Was spamming it all over the place necessary? Probably not, But it did create some unexpected attention and a few fiery debates. Controversy attracts attention and this got noticed. So I say it was an effective spamming campaign. Even if we were less than diplomatic about what was said to each other. I bet a few guys paid for the membership just to choose a side in the argument. It did cut the boredom of my late winter itchiness.

I didn't breach Gary's intentions. I was only confirming with Drew....I think he said something about it being "almost" spam and I was letting him know that actually it "is" spam due to it's repetitve nature and the fact it is asking for our money. It isn't really very difficult or complicated. Now..."get a life" is a complicated statement....hehe...

If anyone was concerned about forum space, this silly topic would have been deleted along with 11 other repetitive posts...this is all a waste of memory. In fact...I won't really remember it in a few days. Will anyone else?? Now I am just playing with you....Haha

Fork over hotspots?? Not sure where that is coming from. My idea was to build a geography of unknown attributes...to better inform the forum. Not that it matters though. You are welcome to your own opinion of it. With that said.... I don't think anyone can argue that my "positive" contributions to "everyone" pretty much equals out my sarcasm. So your defensive stance was unmerited. I was merely pointing out an obvious fact. Which is that repetitive posting is the defintion of "spam". Don't shoot the messenger. I was literally pasting from the dictionary. Also...I think a free membership would in the long run be more benificial...which is "my" opinion. Which I feel more than welcome to share. Again...just thinking out loud And again...."PEACE"

Maybe some of us would rather give our time instead?? ....Just thinking outloud here. Peace
