  1. Went out this afternoon. Same pattern as yesterday. The wind was real switchy so I couldnt sit and work specific cover as intense as I wanted to. So settled to drift shorelines with the wind and just hit fish. Speaking of wich, on two seperate occasions somebody would go flying by me at 60 MPH and the stop 200 yards down drift from me. I find that quite irritating. Anyway, I caught 11 sports and one that went over 4 easy. Reminder to self, put new batteries in the digital scale! By the way fellas, every now and then I will take a pic. I prefer to put my pics on my blog instead posting them. Be sure to look for them there.
  2. In addition. The spring hatch of gills are on the loose. I was seeing schools of them from 1 to 3 inches. Literally hundreds. Hovering in the sun like a cloud in the water. Most the Bass I caught were stalking them. Am going to break out the micro-jigs this evening in hopes of getting some bait. I would really like to tie into the fish that is leaving bite marks on some of the little 10 inch Bass I caught yesterday.
  3. Personally, Here on Taney, I prefer floating Rapalas or Rogues. Then just twitch them to keep them on top. My favorite top water will always be a spook. But that presentation is a bit Large for this body of water. Fish on Taney tend to lean towards the smaller sized baits. so I never go over 3 inches.
  4. If you fish Taney for its warm water species you might already know this info. During times when they run alot of water the bass/crappie/bluegills run and hide in pockets. During those peaks they will pile on top of each other to stay in warmer water. With the exception of white bass and smallies, you will find them huddling in the least likely areas. For the most part I will find them in 6 inches of water and all it takes is a sly worm or top water rapala to pull them out. Trust me, it takes painstaking diligent and lots of patience but it will pay off. I for one hate this type of fishing. I am a run and gunner. And I detest fishing with a wiggle and wait approach. But it will pay off on the Lower Taney if thats your bag. Recently I have been forced to work a bit smaller area than I am used to, and it has taught me a few things. Wiggling a worm isnt the worst thing in the world and top water baits are way to ignored! If you hate the slow approach like I do, then I must suggest working a top water bait as slow as you can muster. It beats a worm any day!

  6. laker, I dont keep track of much. If it isnt football or the BASS Elite, My mind forgets to check. And Phil was right. I copy and pasted that snippet and did disclose its source. I only threw that bit in because Taney does have huge browns. I have caught a dozen or so over 10 pounds. And over half that I catch are over 5. The only time I see "farm lag" fish here on the lower is in the winter. Only because , as Phil has mentioned, They cant dump the farm fish this far down unless the temp is right. All the fish I catch here on the lower are adjusted frisky critters. Put and grow...Put and take,...there is a fine line. Once they have spent a month in the lake they act like all the rest. And I will have to say, the fish on the lower tend to be alot more healthy and selective with thier diet. Nobodys catching 50 bows a day down here. Greg, I can get out, but with only a trolling motor. Sucks to drag that battery up the hill when it needs charged....lol
  7. Couldnt stand it anymore and hit the lake with a fresh battery and fished around the area near home. Did rather well. Caught 14 sport bass. All off of Top water. Its always fun to see those bass bust the surface. One went close to 3 pounds.
  8. This is a little snippet from the Missouri Conservationist Web Site A crew conducting a fish population survey at Lake Taneycomo Aug. 27 shocked up a brown trout that measured 36 1/2 inches long and had a girth of 28 1/2 inches. A clipped fin allowed fisheries workers to determine that the fish was stocked in 1988 or 1991, so it was at least 11 years old. The fish sampling crew didn't have a scale large enough to weigh the fish, but a standard formula for calculating a fish's weight from its dimensions indicates it weighed about 37 pounds. Missouri's current state-record brown trout weighed 26-pounds, 13-ounces. It was caught by Rob Caudel of Springfield at Bull Shoals Lake in 1997. The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) recognizes a 40-pound, 4-ounce fish caught from Arkansas' Little Red River in 1992 as the world all-tackle record. Does Lake Taneycomo harbor a world-record brown trout? Fisheries Regional Supervisor Chris Vitello said fisheries workers have seen several fish in the same size class as his crew's recent, heart-stopping catch. Furthermore they released the 37-pounder unharmed, so it's probably still out there. Someone already had a brush with that fish. The lunker brown had a broken piece of monofilament fishing line trailing from its mouth.
  9. check this out big red http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;hl=bill+bill
  10. I planned on babysitting a crop of corn and tomatoes. wink
  11. Im still looking for a 35 hp tiller stear. Thought I might settle for a 25 hp but the offer got recended. Even those are hard to find in my price range. You know of any? I do have a 45 classic 50 merc as a trade. cables and oil injector included. Just needs a little lower unit work. Either way, I will find something eventially
  12. On Taney Shoot me if I am wrong, If you see fish on the graph on Taney it is most likley a white sucker. I ignore the fish locator on my monitor. I use it only to find depth breaks and the big cover. It is not hard to use a graph of any tech. You just have to know its level of sensitivity. I personally crank up the sensitvity and read between the lines.
  13. I think Bill Beck was partnered with Bill Babler in a recent competition. And they won! Good credentials to me. Check out this thread... http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;hl=bill+bill
  14. They idea to eat an egg came from watching animals like the mongoose steal eggs from birds/snakes and such. If it is good enough for them then it must be for us too!! Right?
  15. They better stay out of Arkansas. They will find themselves getting shocked and relocated!
  16. The closest thing to a guru here on OAF I believe would be Cpt Don.
  17. outdoorman, If a thread dissapears from the view new post search, you can still scroll to the bottom of the Forum home page and click on Todays Active Topics. Most the time it will show up there.
  18. Well, I am still using a Humminbird LCR 400 that I bought in 1991. It dont tell temp, but here on Lower Taney You only need to watch your depth while trying to pin point holes and berms. If I set the sensitivity real high I can see certain cover but only the big cover. How is your Garmin acting up? You may not even have to buy a new one if you can just live with a quirk or too. Like Phil says, above Roark you dont really need one. I myself would never fish for trout below Bull without being able to find certain holes. But I never use one when Bass fishing this lake. On Table Rock though, Bass Fishing is pretty tough without a graph.
  19. As much as I have paid to my lawyer, I should at least own one? Haha
  20. If your going to fish Lower Taney exclusively then the key is to watch the water. If its low, I would suggest you stick to coves and creeks and fish them like you would fish any other body of water. When they start to run water, try to find channel switches and fish with lures or vertical fish with bait in about 12 feet of water and keep your bait a couple feet off the bottom. What I like to do is drift. But I also like to drop anchor and fish an area. If after 20 minutes or so you dont catch anything, pull up the anchor and drift down 50 yards and drop anchor again. Just continue the process over and over again. Then go back to your starting point and do it again. Its a relaxed approach but with family in tow it will be the easiest, You can cover alot of water that way. Being its your first time on Taney, I would suggest you spend at least one day up near the fall creek area as well. They are two totally different experiances. Just keep in mind that above Fall Creek you cant use bait. Be sure to read up on the rules and regs. Good luck to you!
  21. I have been off the lake so long I am starting to go manic! When I get back on ,the first thing Im gona do is catch a bunch of Farm Raised bows! And catch and release a bunch of sport bass. Then when that is out of my system, I will dredge the holes fors the brownies! Aaahhhhh!
  22. Those Sport Bass make it all worth while. I may not catch 10 pounders here on Lower Taney, But the bass fishing can be fun.
  23. Greg, I think they should generate at the same time everyday! Would be nice! The rainbows down stream from Bull are all healthy. I rarely see fish with farm lag though.
  24. I dont see no stinking Judges Noone would ever do that here!
