  1. Haha I have been here all along. Just lurking around and watching. I have noticed I am now a 'MADE' individual of the OAF organized fishing syndicate. Must have been a pro tempore thing since it is stated in past tense. Unless the order is out that I have to be 'whacked' and nobody wants to do the paperwork twice. I am so confused. Do I need to pay this months morgage payment or can I just spend it all on beer instead?
  2. In the early 80s walleye were not so unusual. Although, up until the floods, last year I am sure there wasn't any at all. Phil is correct when he says those which came over the dam are pretty much played. I wouldn't say they were caught out though. Keep in mind a walleye can migrate eighty miles a week. With powersite being an overflow dam, most would have likely took the dive into Bull Shoals. Another note, Taney can not maintain a sustainable population of walleye anyway. Back in the 70s and 80s there were much larger stocking numbers of smaller trout (fingerlings) to at least feed the walleye. Walleye stocking was minimal but back then it did exist on a small scale. I am afraid the attempt to add walleye to the lake fell into the same dilemma as the trout. I like to call it Fish Bowl Syndrome. Without constant stocking, the population simply doesn't survive. I do not know why the stocking of walleye was phased out some thirty years ago, but I would assume it had to do with the walleye migration habits. Maybe Missouri didn't want to waste their money to stock Arkansas(Bull Shoals). A walleye in the summer will follow a food source along the coast of Michigan from Chicago to the St. Clair river. Which is well over a thousand miles. Little old Powersite can never corral an instinct like this. Trav's two pennys, for what it is worth.
  3. Thanks for the concern Vince. I have been lurking around the site periodically. Just have been really busy latley and havn't had much opportunity to hit the lake. So I have nothing new to report about. Up until it started to get cold, the lower lake has not looked so good anyway. Has had a funny color to it. With all the high water this past year it is like a tossed salad which has sit at room temperature too long. This year has kind of put burs in my jock strap. I have talked to few people who have given it a go a few times in the last month or so and from what I am hearing I havn't missed much. I will keep everyone informed when I get back at it. Don't worry. I havn't fallen of the grid or anything. The way '08 treated me, there is no place to go but up. Lets think the lower has seen the worst it has ever been(at least in my lifetime) and we have better days ahead. If the Miami Dolphins can rebound then Lower Taney sure has a shot as well.

  5. If I was a carp and sucker gigger I could fill a freezer in two hours here on the lower Taney. They are huge and easily spotted.
  6. Haha I bought the dock from a bankrupt eden roc in 1990. No sign of me because when there is 60 degree water coming out of the dam I have only Bass to fish , which is lost to the floods. Lots of carp for the taking though.
  7. Trav

    Trav

Water is too warm down here. It is insane. 68 at my dock. And it is on the channel side. Expect very few reports from me. Even the warm water species are moving up to the dam to get O2. I think that Mr. Babler and Mr Lilley can explain how fish react to low O2 better than myself. I am exhausted by floods and hurricanes and the lake being tossed like a salad. I might still fish the lower this winter some but I don't expect many results. Will only fish to enjoy the fact I will wet a hook but the numbers will be humiliating. Sorry to say. Of course, I have only scene these situations once in my life and I have lived here a short thirty years. Maybe I am used to a norm other than most. If you want some advice from Trav on the lower Taney, all I can say is if the shallow water is cloudy your not going to catch anything but desperate bows. Take my advice or leave it. I can bet my bottom dollar that every trout worth a catch is trying to catch their breath below the dam and no where near the lower.
  8. Boys camp cove and the back end of the Bull Creek shelf. Bobbers and corn will do the trick. Just stay to your right and you will find all you want. If you get to the Island, you went to far back. There is a mix of white carp and regular carp. Lots of drum as well.
  9. Rockaway Fishing pier is good as well. Plus there is alot of people their willing to give you advice.
  10. Mosouthpaw!
  11. I thought we lived in a country of capitalism. Not socialism. I say let the banks die a peaceful death and let the market start over. I have seen plenty of businesses die over the years. Hell, only one out of five resteraunts make it past the first year. It is the nature of it all. You over extend, then you should own up.
  12. Didn't Sarah look so sexy when she was talking about how she was from outside Washington? Is it me? But she seems the type to have the best bedside conversations. Yummy.
  13. Those boys at Rockaway wasted no time in retreiving their dock. Watched them push it back in place this after noon. The guy with the missing boat was out their in it, helping out.
  14. Anyone missing a boat? How about a whole dock full of boats?
  15. I pull everything out and burn them with the fall leaves. Also, I don't disturb the soil until spring comes. It is just an old wise tale my Gramps always used to say. I suppose it wouldn't really matter with my garden anyway since I have all raised beds and add fresh soil to them every spring. Just what I do.
  16. Hey Chief, I never said I was anti social. I am sure there is a fine line between the two. I am seeing a shrink because I have certain lacks in social grace. Big surprise. The only issue I have with the guy is that he wants to focus on my anger management defaults. For some reason that really pisses me off! It's all good though, I kind of like the guy and am amused at him trying to figure me out when I obviously have more education than him. Sometimes I feel like I am analyzing him instead but for conversation sake I get some resolve from the sessions if not patience.
  17. I kind of have to agree to that.
  18. Too funny, monica has the stains to prove old B J
  19. Welcome!
  20. Human Anthill Al It is a bunch of To live with it is nothing but tolerance. And my shrink wonders why I live my life avoiding all human contact.
  21. Thom, If there was oil in my back yard, you can bet that I would move and let them drill. My cousin owns an oil feild in Texas. He also has several bass ponds in that field. Not a one has been effected by the pumps.
  22. Here in Taney, the growth rate is much slower. It might take them three years to reach two pounds. The majority of the browns I catch are between 3 and 8 pounds. I have only caught a dozen or so over ten and have yet to catch one over 15. Those fish over 8 are easily ten years old. If not more. They could easily date back to the initial stocking. I know that there is 30 and even close 50 pound browns in Taney though. I have seen them. You can't see a foot long width with an easy 30 inch length and not think 40 plus pounds. They are stubborn though. They act like whales that feed on only plankton. No response no bite. Anyway you look at it, the next record brown will come from Taney. It is just a matter of time that some lucky guy will coax one of those big boys I have been seeing. A little notion tells me that if I eat a little more powerbait........
  23. I am impressed! I guess it is time for me to dig out my northern gear. Time to drift with live minnows again. Havn't done that on Taney since the late 80's. Used to pull guys like that all the time drifting in the dark. I thought the walleye was about dead in this lake. To be honost, this year has me confused. And I have lived here pretty much all my life.
  24. The code isnt complicated Red. I have talked to tourists that know the law better than most us natives. It is ludicris that someone can't read a sign yet alone a code book. I keep a copy of the wildlife code next to my remote. Read it during commercials. It is just black and white. Simple english. The cold hard truth is that there is an eliment of our society that don't give a dung. I say put a full time guy on the lake. Covering not just the upper but the lower as well. Not to play traffic cop either. To adimently go after those fishing. Creel checks and license checks. We start putting some people in jail, they might think twice. Take my word for it, Taney County jail has really bad food.
  25. Drilling has come a long way. I think the salmon are safe., but I think they will take extra care considering. The human Anthill will eventually destroy the planet anyway. Why stop the inevitable now?
