Missouri Conservationist Insults Hunters And Trappers
Trav replied to vonreed's topic in Conservation Issues
My Father, Grandfather, his 6 brothers, my Great Grandfather, and all of his 14 brothers must have been crazy as loons then. They kept and ate everything they caught. Nothing got put back. And that was back before there was limits. I have heard tales of 4 brothers catching 500 fish in a single day. They fed the entire neighborhood and everyone was appreciative. Now, I must have gotten some genes from another family since I let EVERYTHING go. Haha, Maybe I should get a genetics test done and make sure Im not adopted. -
FlyFshn Haha Me Lead? Uh.....I can lead by example, but like Tight said, getting everyone else to agree to let me lead is another thing.

Tightline, Haha If you ask Taxi, he would say there are alot of Ladys like her, complaining and crying about killing and eating fish right here on this forumn. -
Thanks Snakem Keep those water temps coming. I am watching them very closely.

Crowds and fishing? Kind of an oxy-moron to me. Anyone else?

I found a law that proscribes the sale and purchase of a legally owned product. You can own up to an ounce of marijuana in Alaska, but it is illegal to sell, buy, or trade it. Hmmmmmm Haha

I have a 93 4x4 Silverado King Cab , V8 454 and Mtn Towing Package with the beefed up diff. Bought it in 03 with 130k. Since I bought it I have had the tranny rebuilt, and put in a new starter. It now is pushing 160k and is running like a top. I really cant tell what has been replaced prior to my buying it though. The truck is super clean, including the engine, wich looks like brand new. It does burn that quart of oil between changes and I gets 18 mpg highway/14 mpg in town. But it does hold 40 gallons of gas with both tanks full. I think I spent about 110 dollars to fill it up last.

I used to love tent camping but anymore my back cant handle sleeping on the ground or even on an air mattress. I wake up feeling all beat up. Going camping for a week on TableRock as soon as the dogwoods bloom to catch the Spring Bass Spawn, but in fifth-wheel trailer luxury. Great Pic Don. I like the lighting.

You guys have better luck than me. I might get a few hundred k on a vehicle but it never fails, between 100 and 150k I have to do alot of work. Water pumps, starters, trannys, alternators, mufflers, heater cores, are usually the routine, and then I can get another 100 k and go through it all again.

I watched it via Live feed on the net. Got to see the whole weigh in. I watched the ESPN coverage as well. The only advantage to ESPN was the coverage on the water. Didnt get any of that online.

Done deal. He said you guys were catching some decent fish. How did the tourney go?

It isnt general practice, but it is possible that when they did thier daily mortality count some ended up in the chute.

Oh how times have changed. What do you think another 160 years will prove of us? Haha Scary

All those stats are correct. Straight off the ASA Website.

I remember that thread Kido. That was started as your attempt to get people to join/discuss your utopian dream. Then it got turned and twisted into some non-american cult classic. Haha I had fun on that topic. I hope you dont carry any ill feelings. We were just poking holes(and a little fun) at the idea you were conveying. I have noticed that agendas are quickly exposed on this site. Especially when there is religion and/or politics involved. If I remember right, you had both going for ya. Haha

Thats why Phil split the lake up. There is no doubt that the upper and the lower fishes like two seperate bodys of water. Requiring different approaches and different tactics. They even react to weather and generation differently. Its where the line is that differs from one angler to another. As I stated, I feel that Roark is the line but it is just the line I wont cross due to personal likes and dislikes. Truth be known, Barrier cove is where I normally stop/start. It feels like from there to Roark is a bit of a grey area to me. Thats where I get that "change of mindset" feeling that MoBass mentions when he is headed through Branson. The deep 30 foot holes cant be found anymore but it is still a viable Bass fishery. The water still fishes like the lower, looks like the lower, but you can start to notice that the super chilled water will be more prevailant across the entire width of the water and not so concentrated to a channel. This Topic is really of no debate for who are any of us to draw lines. But I do find it interesting to hear what everyone has to say on it. I think that the majority of this poll so far shows that to most the people who like to fish the upper will stop when they start to see Branson and the ones that like to fish the lower will stop when they start to see Branson. That we all can agree on. Just where in Branson, is open to individual comfort levels. Those that like to fish both will normally adapt by changing what they fish for, and/or how they fish. Lets keep the polling going. It would be interesting to see the results with a couple hundred votes.

Haha Forty million anglers marching in DC. That would be one heck of a spectacle. That is 11 or so percent of the total population. I bet we make the news!

PHW, I read the same info last night on Wikepedia.com. I really doubt the Dredd decision would have made any difference even if it had been known at the time of naming Taney county. In those days it was common practice that Democratic(Federalists) state leaders assigned popular names of thier party to countys, streets, towns, ect, while they were in power. As did all partys going back to the beginning. However history wants to brighten the reality of the man, He still owned slaves even if he was civil to them. So in part, he had an investment in that practice. I wont disrespect his narrow impartiality while he served on the bench but his decisions were, in base, politically popular of the day and very self preserving to his appointment. Simply put, he was spineless and morally impotant when it came to sticking his neck out for the better good. He hid behind the letter of the law and treaded lightly when it came to changing the law. If I am wrong , Please correct me, but even though Missouri had legal slave ownership, Wasnt it illegal to buy, sell,or trade slaves within the state? I cant find a verification. I do remember something of that nature being discussed in Political Science class. That was many moons ago. Haha

Recreational fishing is big business, generating more than $125 billion in economic output and more than one million American jobs. If sportfishing were a corporation, it would rank(47th) above Bank of America,Time-Warner, Microsoft or IBM on the Fortune 500 list of largest American companies. That is more than Gross Product of 23 states. This doesnt include the 650 million in revenues from license sales across the country. 40 million anglers(more than all the MLB stadium admissions in a year, combined) generate 45 billion in retail sales each year. That is also more than those Americans who play golf and tennis combined. Fishing also provides for 16.4 billion in state and federal taxes.Nine billion being federal taxes, surpassing the entire budget of the Enviremental Protection Agency. The American Sporting Goods Association Ranks fishing 6th out of 42 recreational avtivities. Only walking, swimming, exercising, camping and bowling rank higher. As a Leisure time activity fishing out ranks basketball, softball, skateboarding, hiking, and jogging. American Anglers spend a combined 471 million days a year on this activity. We anglers do have power in numbers. This and alot of other information on Sport fishing can be found on the American Sportsman Association Website.

Haha You shouldnt be in government if all you want to do is make a living. Although, I wont argue that it can be a hard job.

"It is difficult at this day to realize the state of public opinion in regard to that unfortunate race which prevailed in the civilized and enlightened portions of the world at the time of the Declaration of Independence, and when the Constitution of the United States was framed and adopted; but the public history of every European nation displays it in a manner too plain to be mistaken. They had for more than a century before been regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations, and so far unfit that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect." Roger B. Taney, Supreme Court Cheif Justice 1857 Who's dumb butt decision was it to name a missouri county after a Maryland born, pro-slavery bigot? Like that is something to be proud of.

"Good" is a relative term. "Earning" what you got is the best feeling in the world. Dont sweat the details. There are alot of us that are just efficient and accept that "Good" is whats in our heart.
