Fished out of Baxter, Mill Creek, and Indian Point Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from about 11 am – 3 pm at the latest.  Fished the White from Baxter up to about Point 9, Fisher Creek, and Cow Creek.  Thursday the wind was nasty particularly in the afternoon east of the Kimberling Bridge.  Caught about 35 – 40 fish total with Tuesday being the better day.  Maybe 6 keepers total.  One day found fish on primary rocky points, the next day further back off those points in the creek, and then in the pockets adjacent to the primary points.  Thursday and Friday were smallmouth days.  Did catch 6 SM in a 40 yards stretch in Cow.  Saw fish on beds on Friday as the wind was a little calmer.  Water temperature in the lower to mid 60s.  Most fish caught in 15 fow.  Tried to find that smallmouth bite that Bill B. had the previous Saturday but no joy.  All fish caught on watermelon red Zoom shaky head, split tail ned in California Craw or Mud Minnow, or ¼ oz  craw jig/trailer.  The swimbait did me no good, maybe because I was not on those gravel flats.  Catching not near as good as the previous week, I’m thinking because of solunar thing and high barometric pressure or because just about the time I would find them it was time to go home  or maybe because I don’t know what I’m doing half the time.  Enjoyed the week and looking forward to next week.

So, pretty much everyone knows what I like to do, and more or less where I prefer to do it. Not much change in any of that. I walk a different path, for sure.
But it's working. And it's an alternative to some other options. Now, by working...I don't think most people will have the patience (tolerance, confidence, total lack of sense) to do it. Numbers are down for me this trip, but quality is up. Translation: multiple limits most days, but not a lot of shorts. Bunch of 15-25 fish days, with 10-20 legals. Some of that is probably on me for specifically fishing bigger fish places. Bunch of 14# ish "limits".
Other than a couple of freaky days due to the tornado and subsequent rise, it's been all itty bitty baits, six pound line, and water less than 10' deep. Mostly less than 8'. Caught one fish yesterday in 22' for absolutely no apparent reason. We had a crazy Chatterbait afternoon the day after the tornado, couldn't replicate it. Did catch some on similar stuff on a square bill, but it ended quickly.
To pin that down more, think about the "color change", where the bright rocks get dark. That varies by area, color. Might be 3' on one spot, 8' on another. Yes it's finesse, but it's not different than where you'd fish a wart, or a wacky worm. Learned that years ago from one of the Leavenworth club guys. A really good stick.
To me, it seems like the fish are a little mixed up in terms of the usual waves. Have caught fish in all stages now, although the post spawn fish just started.
Anyhoo... it's a reliable bite, if you can put your head down and just grind at them. 90 degree casts, and a lot of dragging, especially if the wind is up. Dead sticking on slack line if not. Trying very specifically to not cover water. Scent absolutely helps. Don't think it attracts them, but it seems to cut down on light bites.
Forecast is a bit rugged. My hunch is more fish will be coming in shortly.
Have to resize some pics, will add those in a bit.
Water around 13 is getting a nice clear green color. Still a lot of bits and pieces floating around. Temps mostly low 60s. Overnight cool down is murder.
Of some interest: decided to weigh a bunch of fish, MLF scales. 16" to 18" brownies are consistently outweighing blacks. At 18"-19" blacks start to get that largemouth belly and it shifts a bit. I've had that feeling for a couple of years.

My wife, son and I ventured out on Friday evening in uncertain weather conditions so stayed fairly close to where we keep our boat which is at Hideaway Marina near point 11.  In the space of two hours we caught 6 difference species of fish - smallmouth bass, Kentucky Bass, walleye, white bass, crappie and a huge drum.  All were caught using either a ned's rig or a swim bait.  The crappie and drum both hit a Keitech Swim Bait.  The drum hit the bait hard and after hook set I knew I was tied into something big as he stripped a lot of line from my spinning reel loaded with 8" monofilament.  It took at least 10 minutes to wear him out so we could get a peak at what was on the end of my line (pics attached).  I estimate the fish at somewhere between 30" and 36" long and at least 16" wide.  I would have liked to weigh him but had no good way to get him in the boat.  He floated on the surface for close to five minutes which allowed us to take a number of pictures and get the hook out of his mouth before he swam off.  Has anyone else ever caught one of these giants?  The white bass we caught was part of a group that surfaced near us schooling.  My wife hooked into one, that soon got off, when another grabbed her ned's rig.  It was an interesting evening to say the least.

Had a few hours to kill yesterday so i put in at Mill about 9:30, water temp 65.  Tried to get a bite going on the big spoon under docks but they are not quite there yet. Had a lot of chasers but none committed.  I started running the bank and found some on beds and the ones that were still on beds were willing to play. Tossed jigs, wacky worm, shakey head but the only thing i could get the bed fish to eat was a ned. Ended up with 5 keepers for a whopping 10.59lbs. Also caught plenty of short fish. Most the fish still on the beds that I saw were spots.  I did get off the bank for a minute and threw a 3.3 Keitech and quickly caught a 16" smallmouth. But i couldnt stick with it knowing i could watch them eat the Ned.  Snapped a couple pics, nothing big

Had a decent day with about 25 total between 3 of us; 4 keepers.  My son had a nice 3 lb 10 oz. largemouth for the big of the day.    All fish caught on swimbait, mostly Keitech 2.8 and 3.3.    I tried peewee football jig; senko on shakey head with no takers.    All fish caught on or near points and inside pockets.   Most in about 10-15 feet.   Put in about 10:30 AM and off the water about 4:00.   The bigger fish were full of eggs and all fish were released.   I had a nice goggle eye on that came off at the boat-looked like a 13 incher!    Went all the way back in Cow Creek and my son caught the 3 lber off a steep back in about 15 feet.   Fished the secondary points and inside the pockets up and down Cow.   Weather was awesome; nice cloud cover most of day and a nice breeze off and on.    Water was still pretty clear for the most part.   Did run into the moss different places, mostly up shallow.

WT 58 in the morning and some 60 by noon.  Found fish shallow and some deeper.  The better fish were around 15 plus deep and one the main points.  Caught a few more than a dozen - spots, LM and a couple crappie accidentally.  Crappie were on the bank.  Lost a really nice LM at the boat as he took flight.  About a dozen rigs at the ramp.  Headed back there today.

At least its going up during the spawn and not dropping. The ones that have yet to spawn will be able to locate in water closer to cover.
