Today had the potential to being the best top water day I have ever had on the Lower. A bit disappointing but I had a decent day none the less.

I had close to 30 fish swirl, nip, or slap my bait. It was like they couldnt commit to the bite. And I persisted them with several casts each. I did manage to boat 8 sports and two goggle eye. I did see the majority of my harassers and not a one was over 2 pounds so I dont really have that feeling that a biggun got away.

They were conservitive to say the least today, but at least they showed thier face.

Enlighten me on the top water tactics of lower Taneycomo.

Early in the day? Late in the evening? Hula popers?

Spill the secrets. Because I may just come down and fish it this saturday and sunday.

Haha

I rarely get on the water before 1pm. Anyway, yesterday I hit the lake around 4pm and fished until dusk.

I was using a 3 inch floating rapala. just twitching it on the surface. Its kind of like worm fishing. Slow and methodical.

I actually hate slow and methodical, but when the fishing gets tough you have to adapt. I prefer to run and gun, burn and churn style of fishing. I hate to coax a bite.

If you want to catch fish you do pretty much anything though. I also found that with the water running the bass have been crawling under over hanging trees. The majority of my bites came from skipping the lure under a limb that was hovering about 2 feet above the water. Sounds simple huh?....haha....I spent just as much time digging my lure out of the brush as I did fishing. But that is where they were and I for one will get out and walk in knee deep mud if it will get me fish.

Good luck this week end.
