ozarkgunner Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 So I guess that means its time to bring the old hoyt down to Taney... Rope flies? Angler At Law
DoveTail Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Rope flies? Actually, that is one way to catch them. A nylon rope that is frayed, put a small hook just to hold a perch or bait fish. The gars will eat the bait fish and get the fibers wrapped around their teeth - the hook won't catch them (or at least it's been my experience).
rainbow Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 We went turkey hunting at a good ol boys farm in the ozarks and after the hunt he invited us to his fish fry. All they had was fried gar loins as he called them and they were as good as crappie. Cut the back straps out of them with tin snips and fried em up. We didn't know it was gar and said how good the crappie was. He laughed and said it was gar and we ate some more.
Randall Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 A barbed Easton Arrow fly with like 18/0 X braided nylon tippet should do the trick i think. Cute animals taste better.
