Things That I Never Knew

Recommended Posts

You are so right Ness. It had to be MOMO hitting the outside wall, because of the frustration he must have been feeling of not being understood. His ( MOMO's ) wife must be Buckshot's mother-in-law.:lol::lol::lol:

Very good. I see you caught my mother in law joke. I went through a stage where i always had a mother in law joke of some kind to tell. Most were funny, some would have gotten me killed if she would have known what i said. LOL If the truth be told though i have the best in laws you can have. It's my wife who got jiped. LOL

This started out as one topic and slowly tuned into another. I must admit the reading is very entertaining to me. You guys definitely have a special gift-of-gab and I certainly am enjoying it all! Hope this saga continues a bit longer.

Well I’m glad we can entertain you Bredman. But this kind of entertainment will cost ya, so where’s our Bred….man? LOL OOOOHHHH, I kill myself sometimes!

Yeah, sometimes you need to jump in there too. I’m sure you have an opinion so lets hear it.

It's a question (wager) that has been contemplated since the days of Pascal, and probably before.

Religious discussion is bound to get someone hot under the collar (like Wrench's innocent enough correlation above of GOD and Santa Clause, which is bound to offend any fundamentalist Christian or at least get their dander up towards you)

naw, if I wanted to discuss this stuff further I would go on over to www.freeratio.org and have at it.

Been there, done that.. Even took a few mental photos..

Now, about this fishin stuff.. lol

I'll try to explain, hopefully without taking this topic too far, or offending anyone....

You can't honestly BS yourself into believing something that you don't, even if for personal gain.

If I felt comfortable doing that then I would simply "choose to believe" in poltergiests so that I would have an explanation for the flying bleach bottle, and wouldn't have to wonder anymore.

As a young man of 11 or 12 I pretended to still believe in Santa Claus....because I figured I would get more presents that way. When in reality I had a handle on the whole Santa conspiracy by age 8 :)

To truly believe in Santa is precious. But to pretend to believe, for effect only...well, I think that's manipulative. It is projecting a false innocense for the effect of adoration. And alot of what's wrong in the world today is a result of those type of mind games. People pretend to believe or support certain things that they actually don't...so that they appear to be politically correct, and accepted as "normal" among the majority.

I hope I haven't overstepped this. I just want to be understood by those I call my friends. Certainly what I believe TODAY might be re-evaluated tomorrow because of potential conflicting evidence. Mine is an open book.

Oddly enough I followed all that and understand it now. And let say that I don’t want to convince you or anyone else that is was Demons in the laundry room; I merely offer the idea as a possibility for conversation sake. It certainly could have been a demon for all we know. I tried to give the reasons why I entertained the thought.

I for one hate to be politically correct but have found myself stooping to it in order not to offend the sensitive. For example you would never find me driving down Hollywood and vine yelling obscenities at gay people for being gay even though I don’t agree with it. However if asked by a gay person what I thought of people being gay I would give them a chair so that I could tell them! LOL But I never would hate or persecute them just because it was the popular thing to do. I like to think I can think independently from the crowd.

Lucky for me I do not celebrate Christmas. And or have never felt the need to lie to my children about it. Even though I firmly believe and have my reasons for not celebrating Christmas I don’t hate or shun those that do celebrate it from my mist. The same can be said of the pagan holiday Easter. Again, I’ll gladly share my reasons why I don’t have anything to do with it but if you still decide to observe it that’s on you just don’t expect me to follow your lead.

I think there is a little difference between God and Santa Clause. Obviously I think one is real and the other isn’t! With one I stand to inherited eternal life and the universe and the creator of all of it, the other maybe some little gift that would be broke and thrown away in 6 months. Besides I hate Santa because he never brought me my P32 modulator for my BB gun so that I could shoot at gay people without reloading while on the run! LOL

But I followed your point though.

So to recap here, I still love you, but you will be removed from the Christmas list! LOL

Keep your darn eggs out of my yard! LOL

And pray like hell Santa never shows up with my P32 modulator! LOL

Other than that we can still be friends. LOL

Glad we went full-circle on this without Chief showing up or anybody getting pissed.

I have been here the whole time.

You remind me of that green woody type plant that grows along the shallows of rivers. Most know it by the name of Willow Weed. I call it Dick Weed.

Ditto. Exactly how I feel.

I just want to say that this will be my last contribution to the subject because I know we're getting close to overstepping some imaginary line, although I think everyone here is friendly and respectful enough to have this conversation without any rancor. So I'll just pitch in my two cents and move on, too.

I have no problem with what anyone believes. I won't go into the problems I have with organized religions and the problems I believe they cause in society, which is very different from individual faith. If you really believe something, deep down and without a doubt, I say good for you if it doesn't hurt anyone else. More power to ya.

Buck, buddy, some days I really do wish I could believe in God. I really do. I think it would make a lot of aspects of life easier. But I have a scientific brain, and like you said before, there is no evidence of His existence, so I just can't make the leap. For many people who were not raised by religious parents, and even some who were, the idea of a biblical God is simply absurd. It makes no logical sense to believe something that is so drastically antithetical to reality.

One day I'm here, the next day I'm gone. In the meantime I eat, breathe, sleep. Make some good friends, have some kids, go fishing. One day I'll be worm food and that's just life. It's okay. We don't have to go on forever. Why can't we just be here now and enjoy it while it lasts?

If I were to worship something, it would be nature, because that's what I believe put us here. Being out in the wilderness and interacting with nature is as close to God as I can get, and my God is called Earth.
