The politics you see here shouldn't be here. This is a "fishing" forum. Everybody has their own political beliefs, and we sometimes express them when we shouldn't, especially on conservation issues. I hope you enjoy these forums as I have, and don't be afraid to ask questions or help others with your experience. Welcome aboard. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Guest P. owensby Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Actually, no disrespect intended of course, the drill baby drill refernce in red as opposed to the spill baby spill refernce in blue is about as political as it gets, especilally right now. Now I'm sure we all agree what is going on in the Gulf is horrific, however, this is the time to get control of the situation and make sure that we learn from this so that it does not happen again. Also, I would like to keep driving my vehicle as opposed to riding a bike. Last timed I checked, it's pretty hard to get a canoe to an Ozark stream on a Huffy or a Schwinn 10-speed. On the flip side however, thank you for the nice welcome.

On the flip side however, thank you for the nice welcome. Yes, the "Spill, Baby, Spill" is a political statement. But after the mess in the gulf, I couldn't pass up the oportunity to throw it back at those who would rather we have more of the same instead of putting our efforts into alternative fuels. I will however take it down when I come up with something better. I'll try to come up with something this week. As for your canoe, you could be a little more imaginative and come up with some way to trailer it behind your bike. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Guest P. owensby Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Come on, you think that if we were truly prepared at this particular moment in time to have our transportation system in place to run on alternative fuel sources and the technology that suppotrs that, someone would not put that venture in motion? Of course they would but the science is not availble yet to require what we need to keep us moving forward and not backwards. Believe me, there is a huge financial benefit for the person or group who comes up with the technology to make this happen. And, while we are still a free market economy (although that is never more questionable than it is right now with what is going on in D.C.) that venture will hopefully be fasttracked. But that incintive should come from the private sector and not forced by the Government or the public sector. In fact, I agree we shoud be researching into alternatinve fuel sources, but that is just part of the equation. Most sources of energy without a doubt should be on the table including petrolium and in fact that should be the fuel that is the bridge till we get to that point. By the way, we will always drill for petrolium whether you like it or not. Even if we found a new source of energy all off the sudden, we would still need petrolium for the byproducts it is responsible for such as plastics for example. So, while we are ALL entitled to our politcal opinion's, lets cool it on the dumping of the Petro industry before we find ourseleves being passed by other nations in this reguard.

So, while we are ALL entitled to our politcal opinion's, lets cool it on the dumping of the Petro industry before we find ourseleves being passed by other nations in this reguard. That is exactly my point. Our politicians are given so much money from big oil that they turn their heads to alternative fuels. As I mentioned in another post, there is a company in New Jersey, who found a way to make solar panels smaller and cheaper. he went to Washington to try to get some of that stimulus money to get the idea off the ground. Start up costs. He was told no, go to China. So now he's signing a deal with China. And that is what I've been trying to say all along. we need to find alternative fuels and develop them here in this country before "being passed by other nations." And yes, plastics are a byproduct of oil among other things. But they don't use as much oil as all the cars being driven every day. If we can find and deploy alternative fuels at least for our cars, we would become totally independant from oil from places like Iran and not paying them to develop nuclear weapons. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Gatorjet Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 OK, enough with the politics before this welcome thread gets closed!!! Welcome P. You will find a lot of good information on this forum, and for the most part some good hearted banter. I'm not too far from you, on the "Ridge". Do you fish the lower Meramec? I could really use some tips! Bob Real men go propless!
Guest P. owensby Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I guess we will have to agree to disagree, however, I'm sure we can agree on catching big ol' bronzebacks whenever possible!!!!
