Members Dale Hartigan Posted May 8, 2012 Members Posted May 8, 2012 Hey everyone. I floated the Finley today from the route 13 bridge to the James River and I kept seeing these brownish fish splashing around and they were big too! There were tons of bass and huge catfish everywhere but these tan fish looked different. Could anyone tell me what they are? I don't know to much about the different kinds of fish in this area. I know how to catch bass and that seems to be it but I'm cool with that. It would be nice to catch something else every once in a while though. Thanks.
podum Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 If long and slender, probably gar I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Members Dale Hartigan Posted May 8, 2012 Author Members Posted May 8, 2012 Yeah they were long and slender. I don't know anything about gar. Do people fish for them?
RSBreth Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 If they were splashing everywhere they could have been carp.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 If they were Gar, YES people fish for them and they are good eating but cleaning them is time consuming but IMO the rewards for the meal are worth it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Daveinozark Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 gar have a long snout and come to surface occasionally, so you'd get a good look at them. Carp are tan color though and have sucker mouths.
