Just make sure your tails are not longer than the body of the fly.

Or make them shorter on purpose to prevent short strikes.

Also, you might make the fly a bit beefier in the bulk of the body.

Or use barbless hooks... I use them at night too.

I just re-read that you were talking rabbit... I was thinking pine squirrel.

If they just hit the tail you wont hook them. period. But i typically strip set with a lift of the wrist when fishing streamers.

snap of the wrist more than a rod lift. also they short hit them alot ive watched them grab the tails no place near the hook. especially a certain brown trout at outlet 1

What's its name? You got to name those.

Tail nipping usually means they are interested but something is off... Change color, size, retrieve until they start crushing it. Strip set.
