Nighthawk Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 when fishing rabbit strip sculpins on Taney my fish to strike ratio is very low. do most of you use a strip set or raise the rod tip? thanks
Feathers and Fins Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 snap of the wrist more than a rod lift. also they short hit them alot ive watched them grab the tails no place near the hook. especially a certain brown trout at outlet 1 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Brian K. Shaffer Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Just make sure your tails are not longer than the body of the fly. Or make them shorter on purpose to prevent short strikes. Also, you might make the fly a bit beefier in the bulk of the body. Or use barbless hooks... I use them at night too. I just re-read that you were talking rabbit... I was thinking pine squirrel. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Lancer09 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 If they just hit the tail you wont hook them. period. But i typically strip set with a lift of the wrist when fishing streamers.
mic Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 snap of the wrist more than a rod lift. also they short hit them alot ive watched them grab the tails no place near the hook. especially a certain brown trout at outlet 1 What's its name? You got to name those.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Well if that is the case let him be named Gustafson! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Gavin Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Tail nipping usually means they are interested but something is off... Change color, size, retrieve until they start crushing it. Strip set.
