Threw some jugs out yesterday and only caught one small channel. When it got light enough i started fishing for bass, walleye or anything that would bite.fished from 4am to 930-10 and didnt catch anything except that one channel on a jug.The last two days a guy had a basket of crappie he caught on minnows from the dock and he said the cats were biting the minnows to.So this morning i get some minnows and i fished all around my dock and only had one bite in a hour and a half.I got in my boat and started hitting the banks.I threw everything and didnt have any bites and then i put on a lure i never use and started catching the smallmouths. The lure i put on sounds just like a buzzbait when its coming across the water but i couldnt catch anything on a buzzbait.I was catching a smallmouth every 7-10 throws.they were all 12-14inches long.No keepers but it was fun.I agree with strawhat the water is looking kinda funny, its changed in the last couple of days. All the smalls were nice and clean except the one i took a pic of he had a lot of black on him.Does anyone know the name of the lure that is in his mouth. It has a spinner at the front and back and comes across the water like a buzzbait.I want to get some on ebay but i dont know the name. Thanks

Looks like a "newer" Devel's Horse.... The older one's were wood....

I used to collect them and have always had one tied on in the fall... When the bass start feeding shallow ....

If you look up the devil's horse FULL OLD line up... They had two that are "fat in the middle" one is a 5" and the other is a 7" both made of wood around the late '50s / early '60s....

It could be a "ASIA" plastic knock-off.......

Blue -- how long is the lure and is it plastic or wood ??

If it is plastic -- look real close around the belly for " Cotton Cordell" ...they make the "crazy shad" that is shaped like the lure and are still on the market....

The smaller ( @ 4" ) Devil's Horses were always wood..

Here is the Bass Pro link to the Crazy Shad and the Customer Ratings & Reviews... http://www.basspro.c...uct/61273/79659

Being smaller 3" vs 4" they closer to the current year shad spwan and can be fished like a buzz bait or a wounded ( short stop & go action ) shad...

I would keep it handy till the surface temp falls below 52-55 degrees...

Great lure when the bass head to the backs of coves to gorge on shad in the fall... Plus, it is a FUN lure to fish....

Just for "GP's' here is a link to a chart of Smithwick prop'd lures... http://www.smithwick...2414&fullsize=1

Thanks.i started looking through some of my old lures and found a 3inch red and white cordell crazy shad that looks like the one i was using today and im gonna try it in the morning.i need to try some of my old lures before i get rid of-em.

The older lures that caught fish are very handy on pressured lakes because, the bass see all the "new' lures so offen that they can tell the model number when the lure goes by!!!!

yup, either a devil's horse or a crazy shad. in the spring when the fish are gorging on newly hatched fry throw it out let it sit for a few seconds and just barely twitch it. just enough to make small ripples. other times just thrash away
