Shaker, I know, we all are. This whole college sports thing is just out of hand. Basically what we are telling our young people is tradition doesn't matter, history doesn't matter, camaraderie doesn't matter, unity doesn't matter, what matters is MONEY!

Oopps, thought I was on ESPN, now back to fishen!

2 in a Boat,

I do miss the KU vs MU games but the hatred still lies dormant in my blood........ for now. I hope the Jayhawks and Tigers can put something together each year to where they play each other at least one time in both football and basketball. Kansas City lost out on a lot of money when the Border Showdown was ended and I can't imagine KC commerce and businesses were happy when MU went to the SEC. Really a shame as I enjoyed making the 4 hour trip to KC, tailgating and whatnot that goes along at Arrowhead and giving me an excuse to see some good friends in Kansas City. Like you said its all about the $ and the SEC offered more of it. One thing I will say for the SEC is that they split the pot evenly among all the teams in the SEC. Big 12 is more like the Big 1. The Big 1 being Texas and then its redheaded stepchild Oklahoma. Texas gets the lions share of the $, Oklahoma gets the scraps and the rest of the teams/schools just get the bones. In the end its all about money and hopefully my Tigers can get their act together in football so we don't look like such a joke and out of place. Boys in the SEC don't fool around when they are talking about their football and the Tigers/Pinkel had better get with the program. NOW BACK TO FISHING!

Vacation,

It might be a hair early for those 'Dad's to be coming in on the banks/shallows at night and out of their rocks. Water is still pretty cool for them but I would think you should pick up some right now, just not as many as the water is in the 80's in July and August which is when we typically really catch a mess of them.

Bill and anyone else for that matter,

Anyone seeing crawdads being spit up or have them down their throat in bass lately? Could be the crawdads just haven't gotten moving yet. Water temps are still cooler than normal as that brutal/long winter put the lake temps/avg's back about 3+ weeks or so.

Good luck out there.

down in the swamps of Louisiana where my dad grew up they said the best time for craws was the 3 day prior to a full moon and the best bait was the oily fish. I personally like to gig them in the creeks with the use of a coon hunting light. Their eyes glow red and you get to play in the water lol .

Yes the Brown Bass are spitting Craws, but that is not unusual. I think they dream about them like we do steak. That being said I don't think they are real active yet in this high 60's to low 70 degree water. Usually I think you would be ok, but it might be 4th. of July before they really start moving.

We always use the big ones for the pot, and the little fellers for bait. Used to use them all the time, but just got out of the habit.

Hated to leave the Big 12, but just really saw the writing on the wall. I know the Big 12 added some new teams, but I still really believe they are on "shaky ground."

Even with KU's great BB history, I don't think either them KState of Iowa State are very desirable for anyone. Mizzou would have fallen right in there, and I believe they will all be split up eventually anyway.

I believe my Tigers will fall into the middle of the pack in the SEC just as they have been in the Big 12 for years. They will have ups and downs but with the financial security of the SEC, I believe they will do well.

I have a feeling this year you are going to see Texas ATM come back into the world of reality. One injury to Johnny Runaround and they are toast. They will not be as good this year. We had so many injuries last year and by every report the toughest schedule in football. I look for a solid 7 wins in football and a competitive BB team this year.

Good Fishing

Johnny Football is a freak simple as that.. If he stays healthy Atm will be a force and him the Force of Nature! Arkansas is the Wildcard this year the new Coach and his game theology might be the big surprise. Bama is Bama NS keeps building 5 year teams and until he leaves or injuries destroy him the Tide will keep rolling. SEC football is the best argue all you want but there is a reason they are in the NC so dam much.

Mudbugs are for eating not bait lol.

Just sharing an old-time trick here. Fishing the James River with my grandpa long before Tablerock dam was built, he had a combined method for getting us some crawdads and catfish. He raised chickens at home and when they'd have a chicken dinner he'd save the innards, feathers, feet, heads, etc. in a burlap sack along with a big rock - and he'd bury the sack in his garden.

When we went fishing he'd dig the sack up and tie it to the back bumper of his car - it smelled so awful that's the only way we could stand to haul it. At the river he'd tie a long light rope to that sack and throw it in the river at the head of a "hole" of still water where the current ran in. We'd fish elsewhere up and down the river for awhile then come back and bait-fish on the bottom near that sack for catfish.

Those foul chicken parts would attract every catfish in the "hole", and when we got done fishing he'd haul the sack in by the rope as fast as he could, hand over hand. Crawdads would be clinging all over it and once they were up on the bank we'd grab them quick before they could get back to the water.

The catfish part of this method is probably illegal now, I suspect. So far as crawdads, though, I bet some version of this trick would still work.

I think I'll stick to less stinkier methods, LOL.

How did we go from crawdads to SEC football? But since we're there, todays AR Dem-Gazette has a chart showing SEC football revenue yearly since 2003.

2003 - $101.9 million

2013 - $289.4 million

per school payout

2003 - $8.5 million

2013 - $20.7 million

Every year they make more money, and even more revenue is expected with the launch of the SEC network in 2 years.

aTm lost 9 players from last year including 2 Juniors, one the outland trophy winner. I don't think they are yet in the reload stage. They were pretty much a doormat in the Big 12 the past few years. I think the stars just alined for them last year. They lost their best offensive linemen, best defensive lineman, best receiver and best secondary player. We will see if Sumlin has the horses to just reload. I think the SEC will make adjustments for Manzel this year, like the NFL would. I got a feeling he does not make it thru game 3 of the SEC season. They will win their early games, but he for sure has a horrible price on his head in the SEC.
