wd 40? really? never heard that one before,. does anyone know of a good place for cats around Bolivar Landing? Or a river access around Bolivar that could produce cats?

We always used to soak hotdogs in anise flavoring and a guy told me about the wd and the scent trail it puts in the water. It is made from fish oil Just cut some cheap hotdogs in one inch pieces put them in a jar and spray with wd. we let them set for a day or so in the fridge so they marinate and they work good. also raw shrimp is good if you can't find shad.

Anyone know where to buy bait shrimp in the area?

So, put out the jugs this past weekend. Wasn't planning to hit it to hard so we took three with us. Mine are 17' long with a brick on bottom and three hooks at various depths along the main line. Baited with large raw shrimp to begin with and put them out Saturday morning in Russell cove. Checked them a few times over the next few hours and had nothing. When I checked them the last time before lunch I cut a perch and baited two hooks. When we came back in the evening to check we had one. The brick had come loose and the cat was tangled in the lilies. He bit on the perch head. Re-baited and left them overnight and had a short the next morning. It was fun and it is a learning process but hoping to put em out next week.post-15096-0-90978300-1401930922_thumb.j

A small "island" of them in the very back of Russell Cove across from Nemo Landing Marina. Shallow water, about 3'. I assume they are lily pads, maybe not. You can see them in the picture.

Persimmons are a great bait. We used to have a resort on Table Rock, and my job was to run the trot lines for the fish fry we had every Saturday night. I had a bunch of catfish with hard full bellies, when I opened them up to check what they had been feeding on they were full of persimmon seeds. I save a couple of coffee cans every fall and freeze them for bait for a later date. So yes, persimmons are a great catfish bait. You might have to wrap them in some old nylons to keep them from throwing off the hook though.

About the WD40, a guy on YouTube actually contacted the manufacturer, and asked them if it contains fish oil, if they recommend it, so on. According to him ( muddy river catfishing) it is legend, WD40 is not really making any difference. I haven't tried it, and I cannot be sure one way or another, but I do not want to pollute any waters with any additional toxins. Check out his video, he is a down to earth guy, he gives a lot of tips for catching catfish, and other species. He also sponsored a kid's fishing day in his area for kids that have not fished before, supplied rods, reels, tackle, bait etc. Hijack over. Daryk
