motoman
Ahh, thought these were 4-stroke. - You would think. Especially with the way the other manufacturers are heading to 4-strokes and with all the EPA restrictions. But, BRP sticks by the 2-stroke.......crazy how they make the emissions so clean for a 2-stroke too. Pretty amazing when my pea brain thinks about it. - I believe the BRP outboards/E-Tecs burn cleaner than the competition 4-strokes too?
fishingaddiction
A little too radical design for my tastes. Might change my mind to see one in person. I have been pleased with the performance and reliability of my 06 Yamaha hpdi, but I haven't had it very long. Hope it last a while as I would hate to have to pony up the $$$$$ for anything new. Seth
My buddy and I have ran many Etecs over the past 6 years and the only issues we had were on a 2008 115 and a 2009 225ho. Each motor had a few injectors go bad that had to get replaced. All but one was covered under warranty. The one that wasn't cost $350 to get repaired I believe. The same buddy decided to buy a bass boat with a 2008 Optimax on it earlier this year. He didn't have it a month and the air compressor shot craps. That alone cost him more in repairs than all of his Etecs combined over the past 6 years. We both recently got new motors so we'll see how they hold up against each other. His is a 2014 250 ProXS and mine is a 2013 150 Etec. Both are jet outboards. Until the Etec gives me a reason to hate it, I don't see myself running anything else. The one thing I will give Mercury is they sound mean! I like my quiet Etec though overall. It's kind of like running a truck with a v8 and dual exhaust versus a v6 Ecoboost. Members UncleB
I have a 2008 150 E-tech HO that I am very happy with. Had a fuel injector issue early on covered by warranty. My son has a 200 Merc that has shot craps twice. Other I know have switched from Merc to something due to continuous problems. Just their luck I guess but, I for one vote for the E-Tech. Quite, good mileage, low oil consumption and self winterizing process. Bruce Etter
Sore Thumbs
Bill you are lucky. My 07 Avalanche would burn almost a quart of oil in between 3000 mile oil changes. I looked online and found that to be normal. I loved my avalanche but it had constant minor issues. Air ride went out twice, fuel sending unit, air control unit, cruise switch and a tranny. All within 18 months. Sold it and got a Dodge 2500 with 5.9 Diesel and haven't had one issue in 7 months. I never thought I would own a dodge. Now im not sure I will buy anything but. Members JerryK
I have a 2006 225 ETEC on my Triton. I hesitated in buying it in 2009 because it was not a Merc. but the ETEC was still under warranty so I did. I had a 150 Merc for 20 years without any problems. This ETEC has also been problem free. it is quiet and efficient and fast. I am very happy with mine!
Ham
Who the hell needs a 30,000.00 boat to catch a 2.00 fish? Wrench, you need to take another look at new boat prices. fishinwrench
Wrench, you need to take another look at new boat prices. No I don't. My spending limit on ANY boat, new, used, or damaged/blown peaks out at about 7-8K. I'm happy taking the ones y'all are tired of, fixing them back up and using them until I sell them for a modest profit. That's my gig. I leave all the sales tax paying to you elite folks that like to spend 1/2 hour with a chamois cloth everytime you put it back in the trailer. To me that's not a fishing boat....it's yet another high maintenance girlfriend that I'm better off without. I always have a few boats to choose from when I wanna go fishing, and it pays me to use them. Happy-Happy-Happy!
