fishingaddiction
Well for starters I never said "Elite Idiot". Secondly, If you took offense to THAT then I'm glad you'll never be stirring the dust in MY driveway. And thirdly, I'm not on here to generate business, I'm here to offer advise to guys I like and to bullshit with friends. Of which you're obviously NOT. If I was here "advertising" then I'd be paying Phil for a banner so big it'd crash your s#it everytime you logged on. Now, back to the topic at hand..... The new Evinrudes really aren't that much uglier than this POS are they? 2014-06-18_14-41-29_776.jpg Looks like a naked hunchback Mrs. Buttersworth with bad ink. I really get a charge out of the buzzword "four stroke" on the cowling. As if to say "we want to be sure you know this is a 4 stroke engine because the term "4 stroke" is totally cool now !" LOL I agree Wrench that Merc in the picture is one ugly mother. The sharp line block style of the new Rudes doesn't look too bad in comparison. Born to Fish. Forced to Work. REDSOXWSCHAMP
I happen to like the look of the new mercury's, not so boxy looking. with that picture being a mercury verado, thats a whole different animal. the new mercury 4stroke engine cowlings are very good looking i think, nice clean curves! merc1997 Bo
This oil deal also puzzles me on automobiles. On most all new GM vehicles there is computer that tells you when you need to change your oil. I have had it on my last 3 chevy Avalanche's. All my life I changed my oil at 3000 miles. The tech at the chevy garage said to just change it when the computer tell me to. Now 3 trucks later and over 400,000 miles I have not had one oil related foul up. I just had mine changed on the Avalanche last week and it had been 12,000 since the last change. The mechanic said it was a 1/8 of a quart low and did not look that horrible. This truck has 80,000 miles on it and looks new, smells new and runs and rides like new. I towed thousands of miles with it. My question, what has changed in the last 10 yrs. that we can do this. And after 400 grand of road proof, I'm convinced the computer knows its stuff. bill, with the computer controlling your fuel air mixture, the engine burns cleaner. they also use synthetic oil, which runs longer between changes. we have cleaner roads than back in the old days running on dirt and gravel. dirt does in an engine. the cleaner they burn, and the cleaner the environment they run, the longer they will last. bo
merc1997 Bo
Dang bo, if you dislike the merc so much, why the nickname?that is what i used to have on the boat, and it is easy for me to remember. especially since it blew up because of running too lean, and that would be most likely a computer problem. bo
merc1997 Bo
Man i'd say that is way way out of line comment fishinwrench. If i was you i would do the same as far as a boat is concerned. But to say anyone with a nice boat and takes care of it is an ELITE IDIOT is off the chart. Good Luck with your business i would never be a customer.guess i failed to read elite idot in his comment. he stated elite folks, and i did not take it as a derogatory comment at all. i just took it, that you can catch just as many bass out of anything that will get you there. bo
merc1997 Bo
I have a 2006 Etec 150 HO on the back of a 1991 Basscat Pantera II. I re-powered the cat in April 2007, Merc had a large hole in the side of the motor. The Etec was brand new at that time? Etec performs better than the 'Mercury 175 Efi that it replaced, plus uses half the oil and gas. At the time I purchased it, it was $2000 more than a new Mercury 150 2 stroke but I figured it would be worth it due to the $0 maintence for 300 hours and the extended warranty Evinrude provided at that time. Below are my maintenance / repair expenses for the past 7 years, and the motor still runs like it was new. 3/08 New lower unit - covered under warranty - cause braided fishing line 3/08 New fuel filter - covered under warranty - bad fuel 11/08 New trim buttons on throttle - covered under warranty 02/13 300 hour service around $400 don't remember exact cost. Computer history of the motor showed 337 total hours, with the majority of those hours in the 4500 - 5000 rpm range. nothing like trouble free operation. just have to worry about fishing. bo
Sore Thumbs
I'm with ya on the sales tax gig. I sold cars for years. I have never bought a new anything.
Champ188
In Arkansas, you still pay sales tax on used cars unless the purchase price is below $2,500.
5bites
In MO it's pay no matter if the thing is $200 and has been sold 1000 times. I hate that.

Yeah, doesn't make sense since they've already gotten sales tax on it after it left the dealer lot the first time. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
