ozark trout fisher Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I'm gonna headed off to spend a couple days down in the Eminence area, hiking on the Ozark trail and then getting on the lower Jacks either Saturday or Sunday. I'm not expecting much in terms of fishing based on recent reports, but who cares. At least it looks like a cool front will be coming in that might give us decent weather. Been too long since I've floated that river. Plan to post a report here in a couple days hopefully w/plenty of pictures.
moguy1973 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 We are floating from Alley to Two rivers on an overnighter starting tomorrow morning. If you see a couple of guys one in a yellow kayak and the other in an olive green kayak that's us. Hopefully the rain doesn't get too crazy and muddy things up. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
ozark trout fisher Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 I think I missed you MoGuy. I ended up doing Eminence-Two Rivers Saturday so that would make sense. The fishing was quite good. There were of course some dead spells, but they were few and far between-and some of the rest of the time it was almost too easy. The Rebel Teeny Craw was the only thing that got tied on the entire day. The fishing was best in the lower parts of the riffles, but really I did fairly well anywhere, including the dead slow pools. They topped out at about 15 inches but there were some larger fish that we saw but couldn't hook. I was in no danger of getting lonely but even the crowds were entirely manageable. Just one of those rare days where everything falls into place and you get to experience Ozark smallie fishing at its finest. Spent the rest of the trip poking around in Peck Ranch CA along with a stop at Rocky Falls. Not a bad way to spend the weekend in all. I have plenty of pictures and I'll get them up (possibly as late as tomorrow.)
moguy1973 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 You must that fished it out yesterday because that stretch stunk for us today. They really didn't want much of anything we threw. Caught a few on tubes and cranks but that's about it. Nothing of real size either. The only good thing about it was we only saw two people all day today, and they were camping. We had the whole river to ourselves. Yesterday was another story though. Had lots of floatillas and loud partiers all day getting in our way but surprisingly the fishing was a little better even amongst all the noise. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

I think the cloudy/cool weather had the river fishing really well yesterday. Just perfect fishing weather. I know that stretch of the Jacks can be hit or miss. Bottom line is we just got lucky and landed in the right place at the right time.
