Fish24/7 Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 What the heck are they? seeing a ton of baby fish right now (Theodosia Arm) they are itty bitty, and I can't get close enough to them to actually identify, maybe gills??
mojorig Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Likely a sunfish sp. of some type. It could be silverside fry too. Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
Fish24/7 Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 whatever they are they are really spooky, they swim away every time I try to get close with the AquaVu. They are around other sunfish so it could be some of their spawn. there's definitely no shortage of sunfish of all sizes, just incredible numbers!!!
mojorig Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Yea, we saw tons of bluegill fingerlings (around 1 inch) while diving in Norfork, too. Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
Fish24/7 Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 with the AquaVu finally got a good look at these tiny fish, kind of humpbacked with a see through body and a little black stomach? sort of looks like gills but then they are shaped more like a drum almost humped backed. Probably just sunfish though... Jeremy when do drum spawn in Bull? last time i was out heard a bunch of drum under the boat. Must have been several dozen under me drumming at the same time, most were 15"+ but I saw a few bigger ones 10+lb
mojorig Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Fishes of Arkansas says drum spawn in April and May. Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
