You'll get several responses and I think there may be a recipe or two in other threads.... I don't eat a lot of trout, but for grilling:

Fill the cavity with spices, onion, lemon, and corn chips. Wrap in aluminum foil and put on the grill. Turn it a couple of times while cooking. Time depends on the heat and size of the fish...

butter, lemon juice, onion, and wild chives, double wrap in aluminum foil and throw on the grill or on some coals in the camp fire.

I like to fillet them with the skin on, season (salt, pepper, herbs ect) the flesh side, roll the fillet skin side out, wrap a piece or two or three of bacon around, secure with tooth picks, and grill. I dont see why a person couldn't do the same thing with them whole.

I would rather be fishin'.

NOW WERE TALKING!!!!!

just to add to Terry's post..

3-4 trout (or 1..20-23in trout)

1 large bug of corn chips

1 large finely chopped onion

lemon juice

cut fish up the belly, remove insides.

clean and rinse well .. set aside

Next

break open the bag of cornchips (just enough to let air out)..

with the palm of you hand smash them the best you can..

Next place them in a ziplock bag and crush them some more ... make sure you smash all the big pieces...

Add in your chopped onions and lemon juice (add just enough lemon juice to make the chips a soft)... About 2TBSP

Next..

Take a piece of tin foil (heavy duty).. and butter it down good.. place the fish on the foil... and fill the cavity add wrap up in the foil..

Cooking time is about 10-15 per side...

But.. remember you can test fish doneness like a steak...

if its still firm its still rare..

if you can feel the meat almost breaking apart its done

BUT REMEMBER... Never over cook fish!!

MMMmmm Corn Chips.

Ok Leanord, c'mon with the details. Whats up with the Corn Chips? Kinda like stuffing a Turkey? Does a person eat the stuffing and throw away the trout or eat the trout and throw away the stuffing?

I thought maybe the chips were to soak up the beer while grilling a steak or a burger. Yuk, nasty trout, let them go to grow!

:D yes i believe in selective harvest! i feel that selective harvest is essential in fish, deer, etc....

i feel there is nothing wrong taking a few to enjoy with the family! i let some deer pass to, but they sure are tasty, the ones i have harvested, selectively! :P

just my two cents,
