So why do you have a problem with me ? Let's just go ahead and admit it.....The reason is poor management. The "biologists" are supposedly smarter, their education and equipment is supposedly far superior.....yet they flat out SUCK at their job. Chain smoking, half drunk, high school dropouts did a far better job with far less cool $#!t to work with. And they did it for minimum wage. Statements like this are why i have a problem with you. It is not provable one way or the other. You provide zero evidence for it, yet present it as if it were a fact. Also, there is no reason to use quotation marks around the term biologist. Feel free to express your opinion, and I will do the same. Haris122 1

fishinwrench Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Wait, let me retract the minimum wage part. I actually don't know how much money they made. There ya go, I did post a potentially false statement. I apologize. You win. 🤟 awhuber and 45acp 2
Mitch f Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Experience is the best teacher. Yes, you need to learn the scientific method, and school will give you a good foundation for that. After that, hard work and perseverance will take you to the next level. I’ve dealt with some of the same attitudes 45ACP is referring to. It gets very old quickly. I don’t give a flying POS where you went to school, or what your degree is in. Show me results then I’ll happily believe you. I’m talking proof, not a chart that has been projected and has been based on a poor baseline. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

They've been there for at least a full year and we hear them and even smell them occasionally but rarely does anyone see them. It's amazing how well they can keep themselves hidden in such a small area. The neighborhood hounds have gotten them cornered twice since Summer and there's no mistaking what's going on when that happens. So far no casualties. I saw a group of 4 nearly a year ago but haven't laid eyes on them since. Get a game cam out there. I had a patio deer party one night. 56 of them sitting around my patio like it was a BBQ. I just blink camera's out front too. The foxes in my backyard had a den under a guys porch up the street.
top_dollar Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Just now, fishinwrench said: I think there are scientists working towards a goal, in which case it is probably near impossible to be unbiased. And then there are scientists working towards trying to find the truth, and those guys probably have a constant fight on their hands....to the point that they just throw their hands in the air and give up. And who can blame them? All scientists are working toward a goal, although your assumption of bias is incorrect. I probably am not going about this the right way, so I will attempt to do it better. I do apologize for being a jerk, and coming across as condescending. First, I work as a chemist, so, although not a fisheries biologist, I understand the frustration of research. People who do not conduct research on a regular basis have a very misguided view of what it actually entails. Of course, everyone who designs an experiment wants it to succeed. The problem is that the vast majority of experiments fail. Often times 1 experiment can take months or years, and failure is very disheartening. As a chemist, and a scientist in general, you learn to deal with the overwhelming failure. What I am getting at, is that a scientist, through failed experiments, has learned to simply follow where the data leads him/her. Bias or ones personal feelings on the matter are simply irrelevant. The "scientists are biased to secure funding" argument simply doesn't hold up. It frustrates me to no end, because that argument is most often used by people who have not been in a laboratory since they were 14. They are just ignorant on the subject. Again, I do apologize for insinuating that you are unintelligent. ness, Haris122, jfrith and 1 other 4

I'm not "intelligent" and don't claim to be, I just call it as I see it. I'm all about reality, that's all. Pretty shallow, I know, but that's just me. 😊
