I am no bass fisherman, but years ago folks used to just put a couple spit shot a foot or so ahead of the bait. I know that sounds dumb

Man that lake is crowded and these guys are fishing the same locations as group A did yesterday. 

100% timing and as Lee said you have to trick them immediately or they get conditioned to your bait. 

Believe I have learned more this derby on how to fish pressured fish in crowded water than I knew existed. Right now our fish on TR are doing the exact same thing, I mean exactly.

it's always interesting to see how these guys work their baits.  Watching Murray fish a jig, he'll wind the reel handle reel quick for a couple of turns, then he'll pause it for a second and repeat.

Jordan was doing the exact same thing. That technique works great here also. 

Marty Stone has called out Avena both today and Friday for poaching. Avena  is a total punk. I think he needs to get it together or get thrown off the tour.

Looks like Lambert got that 6# on a scrounger head.  That is something I have never fished.

I think he caught everyone of those on that early run on a scrounger. 

Bob Tindle had one tied on everyday he fished here. Buster still fishes it a bunch. 

Fluke Jr. On a scrounger is a killer for schooling fish sub surface, but you pretty much have to throw it on a spinning rod

Question, what speed reels are they cranking with and what size line.  They are simply winding faster than I have ever seen.  Way faster than a buzz bait. 

Some of you all tell us novices what is going on and if this is the way you fish these deep divers, cause I been doing it way wrong.

to me getting a bass to bite, it all boils down to depth and speed.  waaaaaaaay back, i broke the mold on summer fishing.  way back, we were all throwing worms.  most were using a 1/4 or a great big 5/16.  me, i used the biggest weight i could get by with.  sometimes it is just crazy the amount of speed it takes to make a bass hit, even in the winter.

what do most do with a square bill.  that is right, crank the pud out of it and crash it into stuff.  so, what would be wrong with doing the same thing, just deeper???

the magic behind the 1 oz. Elite Mega Blade, and the 1 oz. Black Widow is to be able to put more speed on the retrieve and trigger bites.  if summer bass are biting a jig, you will often find me throwing a 1 oz. GrassJig, and i will be smoking that rascal across the bottom.

maybe crazy speed will not work all the time, but there are just times that it does.  there is not a reel made that will crank faster than a bass can swim.  this is why i always harp on depth and speed control to make a bass hit rather than beg one.  now, there are times that bass want a bait just sitting there, but that is still a speed.

so, there is my two cents worth.

Funny you say that...I was a B.A.S.S. marshall at Grand a few years back and of the three pros I rode with, only one spoke negatively about another angler...we idled into a creek Avena was fishing and you would have thought we pulled up on the devil himself.
