I recently repowered my boat and need to get rid of my old one.  It is a 2010 90 hp merc 4 stroke and has a scored 3rd cylinder wall and the motor has around 330 hours on it.  Sorry I do not have a picture yet.  It is still sitting on a stand at the place I had the motor swapped.  Not sure how much it is worth and how much to fix but should make somebody a good parts motor or possibly re sleeve the cyclinder.  I would make somebody a fair deal on this as.  PM me with an offer.

Has your mechanic indicated what may have caused that ?

Before purchasing ANY new outboard, people need to start requesting something in writing, from the manufacturer, assuring that parts will be available far beyond the piddly warranty period.

Otherwise they have no business selling these things for the prices they are getting.     The crap they are pulling is un-american as all hell !

I’ve been doing a little research on all of this . It’s truly crazy , not only are the parts unavailable, but no one really knows how to fix anything. Some of things the certified merc techs are claiming , as well as Mercury them selves is ludicrous. There’s numerous story’s of motors failing before breakin and Mercury’s not doing squat about it. Seems its a pretty common occurrence to void the warranty with some B/S loophole .

Honestly, it isn't that nobody knows how to fix them......it is that it isn't cost effective or even feesable to fix them, because the design is sketchy.

In my case, my reputation is important, and if I attempt a fix on a 4-stroke then I know I'll have to own it when it fails again.....which it undoubtedly will.   And when it does, the customer will swear that it's MY fault instead of Mercury Marine's or Yamaha's fault for selling a POS to begin with.    This is why (other than regular maintenance service) I won't even touch them.

When they fail I send them right back to the dealer that sold it to them.   "Oh, not in business anymore hu?".  Well that sucks. Sorry 🤷 I wonder why?

Now I have to be a jerk (in their eyes).....And what do they do????

Go right out and buy another one from the same manufacturer.      It's enough to make me wanna bang my head against a tree.   😠

well it was not an 80's evinrude that I replaced it with Wrench:).  Yes parts were available and I could of had it fixed but would not have been cost effective for me.  Not too many options anymore on new 75-115 hp motors.  I ordered the new motor in December and finally arrived first of September.  They are saying now over a year wait for a new one.
