I’m not speaking in general but skating one across a tail out for smallmouth will result in multiple misses. It’s just the nature of it.

Using one as a popper or dead drifting it you won’t have any issues.

Different approaches, I usually work them in and across  the riffles and where the riffle pours into the hole or into root suctions and often pull it under. I seldom fish tailouts for bass, but maybe I should. As far as poppers go, I've never found them useful except in ponds. I know others that have, but popping never works for me, so maybe I do it wrong. that white gurgler is about the only topwater lure I use for creek bass, though. I guess need to try dead drifting one too. Still learning.

The tail out thing is just fun. It’s not the best way to get a fish in hand but it is the best way to get huge explosive strikes.

Dead drifting one works but it isn’t very exciting. I even caught a 13 inch crappie dead drifting one in a tiny creek.

Shaping the foam with scissors first... then hand sanding them down... was a fun project for sure!

Easy ant body - and they float!

You made that ant out of that plastic dumbell?  I want to see the pattern sheet for that.  The legs have the real claspers like nature made them on the ant.
