kjackson
Geez, Louise...pellet grill or a new kayak? I've been going back and forth on that question, and I think the smoker won. Number Two Son sent a pix of some PNW king salmon that was smoked, and it's been way too long. So, the question is: Can pellet smokers produce a lot of smoke at relatively low temps? That is the key to smoked salmon, IMO. I hate to buy a Little Chief smoker just for salmon, and if a pellet grill will do the job, I'm off to find a good one. DADAKOTA
The smoke plenty at low temp. I also add a smoke tube for a little extra. kjackson
Members yowoodchuck
I think the smoke tube addition is a good idea, for when you want more smokey flavor!

Assembled it, Burned it off. Let it cool down then fired it up and made a slab of ribs. They turned out ok, but there is a learning curve for me since I have been burning in the wood smoker pit for so long. Hey Maverickpro...gonna fire up mine today for some chicken and ribs. Was wondering how yours is going?
Maverickpro201
Oh ya I love it now. Ribs are turning out perfect now. Did my Turkey this year for Thanksgiving, The wife loves it and said the ribs, chicken and turkey was the best she has had for a very long time. And she is not crazy about ribs. Cooked 3 slabs of ribs several weeks ago. 1 for us, 1 for the son and 1 for the granddaughter. DIL really does not like ribs either and my boy said she really went Hog Wild over the ones I cooked. I am going to get a smoker tube for a little more smoke. I bought the 820 cover for it and it fits like a glove. Also bought the heat blanket for cooking in the winter months. As soon as I find a sale on briskets or get back to Texas to buy brisket from HEB store down there, I will be cooking a brisket or 2. Did a pork but that turned out excellent also. Pulled Pork. I vacuum seal left overs snagged in outlet 3 and BilletHead
Members slabseeker
Good to hear, I thought you might like it once you got used to it. I need to try the smoke tube. I vacuum seal left overs also especially pulled pork, works great. I picked up a 6 lb. prime rib roast at Walmart on clearance for $5.97 per lb., can't wait to try that. I haven't done a turkey yet been wanting to. I picked up an 18 pound Butterball at Aldi for 69 cents per lb. gonna put it on next weekend. What temp did you smoke your turkey at? snagged in outlet 3
Maverickpro201
I did the turkey just like in the oven 325*, internal temp 180* and let it rest covered for 20 minutes and I used the blended pellets. For my ribs I prefer the oak or hickory pellets. Like the hickory better I think. Sure wish they made a post oak pellet for the pit boss smoker. You have not had BBQ until you have post oak smoked BBQ. I still have some for my regular smoker that I brought back from Texas 2 years ago. Aldies had prime rib with the bone in 2 weeks before Christmas and I missed the sale. I look at wally world yesterday and prime rib was 10.97 lb. 5lb. But they did not have very good marbling.
